Weight is probably my favorite song by them. The live version on youtube is fucking awesome. Pre-Oceanic Isis is some phenomenal stuff too, the albums Celestial, Mosquito Control, and SGNL>05. Their newest stuff gets a lot slower and with cleaner vocals in In the Absence of Truth and Wavering Radiant, but its still pretty good.

Other Isis-like bands you might like include Rosetta (they are known as metal for astronauts), Bossk (very very minimal vocals), Cult of Luna, Humanfly, Irreversible, Neurosis (one of Isis' influence), Old Man Gloom (Lead singer/guitarist of Isis' side project), Russian Circles (no vocals at all), Transmission0, and Zozobra. You may have heard of some of these before, but they're so awesome they deserve a second mention.

There is a dude in his mom's basement in Wyoming and a dude in Norway who could write a thesis paper on the differences, but being that guy is retarded. Not ranting at you, Cyn, just being angry :3

This is infinitely true. Let me just simplify it for everyone with this:

    Oh yeah, I went there.

In all seriousness though, I'm not huuuuge into stuff like Isis or GYBE!

I still am tied pretty heavily to my melodic late 80's style guitar solos. Quality of guitar player really matters far more to me than much else unless there is just a killer orchestra backing the band.
Example would be (and I think I've posted them before but idk)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<obje...mbed></object>
Basically just 3:20ish til the end. Posting live version for emphasis on the skill level.

Really, for me, it goes Syu (Galneryus) > Paul Wagonner (Between the buried and me) > everyone else.

There aren't a ton of songs I can listen to on repeat for literally days at a time without getting sick of them. Selkies: The endless obsession by BTBAM is one of the very few and that's pretty indicative of the style I really drift to I think. Too chill and it bores me, too choppy (making an effort to have your music cater to people who honestly consider themselves "tough guys") and it'll piss me off. There's a very narrow happy medium where I sit with an erect dick and cum streaming out of my ears.

Russian Cirlces via Eliseos' recommendation has potential to enter the sodomy circle. Further listening is required.

1:45 video of Paul tracking ending solo for Selkies. Augh.

And embedding is disabled for this but it's the Syu's solo from Glorious Aggressor

Also don't know if I mentioned them, but Gifts From Enola is an awesome band too.

I'll check them out. I can't stand that much talking in music (even if it is awesome) though because it totally breaks everything up. Have to scroll through it in your car and etc.

Anti-Flag's "Depleted Uranium is a war crime" is about my limit on journalism in music.
