    Reformatted, 2 things

First off, I'm trying to download my display drivers and while dell's website has the right vid card drivers, when I try to install them it's saying that it cant find my 8400M hardware to bother installing the right drivers in the first place.

Secondly, the product key for xp professional oem on the underside of my laptop has been faded out and support is saying they don't have it on file. First off, is this bullshit and secondly, what can I do if it isn't?

Alright. I solved my first issue sort of. I installed the display drivers despite it not being detected properly.

And the reason I didn't get a key beforehand is because the lameass support bitch told me that I wouldnt need one despite my insisting that I likely would.

Go find a keygen and dl it. I would go dig out my copy of XP and give you my key but I'm too lazy and this way is easier. Now time for me to post a thread, I think something just took a shit in my comp

Hmm, you shouldn't need a key. Are you using DEll provided windows XP? (OEM DELL WINDOWS, pulls the key directly from your bios)

    and also http://www.notebookforums.com/forum304.html

Use forceware drivers for your videocard, dell ones are outdated as hell. Just gotta test your tempature and fan speeds after you install this type of drivers. Easy enough with some gaming or benchmarking tool.

PS: IT HAS to be DELL OEM, can't be another type of OEM or it won't work.

That is correct, Dell have royalty licenses when used with the "OEM" CD's/DVD's. Just use that disc to install and you'll be fine. (There are more advanced ways of doing this, this is just the easiest way for the everyday joe.)
