I've rarely messed around with FoV post-10.

Is it really not that bad? I remember being able to pull 10-20 in a day with PLs in the dunes, etc.

lol too hard? how can any of you sit here and discourage him. have you all lost faith in your game.

Many (if not all)oof us have been playing this game for years, We all started with adventures coupon worth 50g and some with the bland knowledge of our $20 brady guide.

yet we all didnt just stop playing ebcause it was "too hard". we accepted the challenge and pushed forward. We all have had different journeys and our perspectives can be different but there is one thing we all do have is some type of love fior this game that kept us playing.

HE has the knowledge and the will. what is stopping him is the community. if he has any hurtle to over come it will be the people not this game. people who dont want to be level 10 again in the dunes. people who dont want to spend the few hours doing zm 4-6 or promys. etc

he is asking for people to play with who want the same thing and are at the same place/goals as him.

with 6 ppl they can get to 75 and geared in 2~3 months. do all mission in a week or 2. team up with ppl along the way and move on to endgame sky sea limbus dynamis, by the 6-9th month be decent. by one year camping hnm if they want or move on to ff14.

the best part about this game is the journey and the ppl you will meet along the way. start over with 50g in ffxi imo is bittersweet romance

This guy has exactly the idea I'm going for.

Looking for just maybe a group of people who play more than average that want to have fun and maybe recruit some other players along the way.
I'm not looking to weed out shitty players because I was there once.
People get better with the right mind set and advice along the way. The greatest players in this game were at that spot once upon a time.

So to anyone and everyone who wants to start over, that has more than enough playtime, tag along. Hop on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride. I can help with leading certain events and maybe scheduling static EXP, missions, etc.

I can solo a job Lv.1 to Lv.15 in South Gustaberg in like 4 maybe 5 hours with a few stacks of selbina milk. There is no reason to goto the Dunes ever. With the update to the Easy Prey exp you can get 70~ a kill never stopping and pull like 10k hr solo.

Oh alright. Could try and grab my Bounding Boots while I'm at it I suppose.

I'm looking to level DRG first of all just for the sole fun of the job and the ability to be able to solo things.

Should be fun. I missed the game.

It's a real bummer that I know of a way to make myself a really good amount of cash, but it all requires more fire power than I have with my PLD.

    Getting past Banishing Gate #2 is truly a feat these days. -.-;

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Are you able to get in between 2, and 3 through the past? I wasn't sure.

You can certainly get from the Roc area to the area just past gate 2 alone with sneak & invis - just drop down some steps and avoid any holes.

The game is a ton easier nowadays. A PL doesn't help much if you're alone; /DNC lets you solo any melee to 75, and level-sync takes care of mage XP.

I had quit in October, and around the middle of December I was thinking about coming back (been playing on and off since about 2005) but then I picked up MW2 and Dragon Age...so really the desire to come back has faded

I dont know what it is about 11, but I always seem to want to get back into every so often, but it just feels like all the servers are so dead (I was on Fairy) so I was thinking that if they ever merged servers i would probably go back, b/c I really realized that I dont miss FFXI 2009-2010 as much as I miss FFXI 2006-2007.

Seeing as the Beta for XIV hasn't started yet, I'd assume XI will be around another year minimum.. which leads me to believe that I have time to have fun and get some things done.

On the other hand I contradict myself seeing as I have no in-game friends. I'm sort of stuck on Midgardsormr since the PL is there which is a bummer. I'd start the new character on a new server if I could just find a partner. In question to my dedication..

Just little things like that to give people an idea that if hey.. you're starting over too I'll definitely come along, or you can come to Midgard and we can do it together.

So I really hope I'm not the only one. Really only looking for a few friends who like to do some random NMs, grind some jobs, maybe do some Sky and random bullshit.
Most players get stuck to this game because it's human nature to compete and to strike for the best. I have yet to meet a real "casual" player in this game. Sooner or later the thirst for better (not necessary the best) gears/more level 75 jobs will always get to you. Even if you think you are not one of them, you can't be 100% sure that your in-game friends are just as noble.

I can understand your point of view but relying on some total online strangers to progress in this game can be a risky business. I was in the process of quitting the game 9 months ago when 2 of my old friends who got tired of WoW decided to start playing FFXI again. Both got their accounts back, both have above average gear and useful jobs leveled. They told me they had absolutely zero interest in endgame linkshells and only want to do low man activities. Having led a successful salvage linkshell in the past and completed all the salvage upgrade I needed, I offered to build a salvage group just for them. When Aion came out, both left the game without the courtesy to say goodbye.

Don't be surprised to find your duo partner/friends vanish without a trace, esp. after SE release FFXIV. It's probably worth coming back if you don't keep your hope up and just want to have some casual fun. If you do start over, my advice is to start with BRD and RDM unless you are allergic to both jobs. They are easy rides to lv75 and you will be making a huge contribution to your server community. Both extremely useful in low man and endgame situations. You will be able to solo way more missions/quests/NMs than a lv75 BST.

Tbqh, I recommend the BST route. I'm partial to it because it is what I've done. If you really want to be a casual player, nothing is more casual than BST. Heck, you couldn't even get into events if you wanted to!
Which brings up the weakness of the BST path. If you think you're eventually going to want to actually do events and be more than moderately useful, you'll need to level another 75. However, if you leveled RDM you'd be done and could do every event in the game, but you're more likely to get sucked into the competitive "people who care about gear" side of the game.

    Well,

I've received two inquires about people restarting like me!

If anyone else out there is thinking about it we have a small group thus far of 3 that I'm trying to possibly migrate all to the same place.

We'll see how it works out though.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

I started playing FFXI from scratch as a completely new player in late March/April of 2009. It's been incredibly challenging, but less than a year later I'm in pretty okay shape, with two 75s (WHM and SCH) even though I hate exping, and some notable gear. I was very lucky in some regards; I found a CoP static that got me through to sea, I was brought into a pet job shell early on which gave me some support in doing things like genkai and RSE quests, and I met the people who would later bring me into my server's oldest NA social shell.

The hardest part is really the first week or so, when you don't even have the gil to afford lvl1 gear. Everybody else has a ton of 75s and doesn't give a shit about you. Not knowing basic game mechanics gets you mocked, even when people know you're new. It's easy to forget that the XI learning curve is incredibly steep. You won't have to deal with that, obviously, but it was hard for me. Additionally, it's easy to forget all the things you already have on established characters, but must be done fresh on new ones. Things like outpost warps, kazam and whitegate access, city ranks for airship, sky and sea access, RSE armor, genkai, chocobo quest, maps, even the ability to search areas, have to be earned. You'll also find that after lvl50 you'll be leveling faster than you can afford proper gear. Being a weak 75 for a while is inevitable, especially in an age where not having HNM gear is considered gimp and 4mil gear is spare change, at least on these forums.

Basically, you have to find people willing to give you a chance and the time of day. As for good HNMLS, they don't really seem to take people who haven't done it before, at least on my server, which is a mentality I can understand but wish didn't limit my options in the future. However, there's a lot more to do in the game than HNM, even at this stage. I love doing assaults/salvage/dynamis in particular, and if all I could do was einherjar, I'd be happy.

    Hope this helps!

    EDIT: P.S., if you start a new account, make sure you do it with someone else to get the mandy hats and the airship model! You'll regret it if you don't. ; ;

Chances are if you're reading this thread on this forum in particular of FFXI and are attempting to reroll, you'd at least have an idea on how to advance in the game. Going from there, as long as you're not a lazy person about when it comes to shouting or gathering dudefaces for whatever it may be you need done and out of the way (Chains of Promathia I'd imagine being the primary example), you shouldn't have a problem getting something six-man done within a suitable amount of playtime, even with the population as "dense" as it is recently.

Starting with absolutely no connections I imagine would be your biggest hurt, just entirely due to the fact that the game isn't solo-based to begin with, but honestly, as long as you aren't an oblivious idiot, you should have no problem finding the right crew to hang with. I'm a stubborn motherfucker myself and even then I'll go and help the odd-ended person every now and then if they seem capable.

I really hate the whole "omg this game is dying" bullshit, because it's the people that sprout that gossip from the ground up that make the happening even occur to begin with, by merely weakening themselves to that minor fact, but blowing it out of proportion.. and eventually quitting. I realize it's very late in the game's timeline, but I honestly think it's still got much time left remaining in it: Look at even goddamn Diabolo II for gods sake.

I'm still very-much-so dedicated to the game, just simply because in my opinion, no other MMO really compares to it in general even to this day (game mechanics, play styles and the players' attitudes themselves), but honestly, if you've legitimately "quit" the game before rather than getting hacked or being banned, I just simply wouldn't bother: You're simply the kind of person that wouldn't want to go all-out with keeping an old hobby alive.

Recommendation if you seriously have an urge to play this game? Make sure you're positive you've tried all other common MMOs out there before coming back, since you've still got WoW lingering around, and of course now, Aion, but not only that, but most importantly... FFXIV's not too far away, give or take.

If you've got that weight on your mind, thinking pretty much, "Will FFXIV tell FFXI to fuck off in the long run?", chances are you're going to end up punching yourself in the gut for wasting your time on XI instead of doing something "productive" with your time about a year from now tops, so long story short (in my opinion): You must really not have anything else to do with your time.

Though myself, this'll be the last MMO I'll ever touch, whenever the day comes where they finally shut down the final server (after merging servers... +20 times).

PS: Be ready to have SMN75 because dat astral flow is the new merit route, by far, as much as I still love bashing away the birds.

EDIT: Kind of forgot to... finish the first paragraph... wat.

When I joined my CoP static at 2-5 the only jobs I had was 72Bst, 37whm, and 37nin. For the mammet fight they were skeptical but went with it because I was main kiter. But after, of course, it was lolbst. I talked to the leader which luckily was open minded and told him I knew CoP and what to do. They let me roll with it and were very suprised. Highlights was my CC getting the killshot on O/U 6-4 fight with the clock winding down and kiting Promathia when we screwed up and needed time.

I'm very interested in Rdm now though. I've always known how great it is at soloing and doing things low man, but never leveled it because I already had my whore job for events(blm).

After reading this thread it makes me want to come back. And it's only been about 6 weeks since I've been away! Damn crack habit...

    Like I said again,
I've gotten 3-4 people wanting to restart with me. If there's a few more people feeling the urge to restart now would be the time with a group of people who are doing the same.

    Let me know!

Easy way to get through the dunes:
    1) Solo job till 12 1/2.
    2) LFP with /seacom "<Astral Flow> <Party> <Can I have it?>"
    3) ???
    4) Profit to level 22-25, depending on the burn.

    :D
