:O so you mean we can watch porn in 3d without the glasses? My mind had never even considered that possibility!

I dont have the billions of dollars to figure it out. But it's not like it wont happen eventually. It wouldnt be that hard to do it now; it would be hella amature in this stage im sure, but possible.

Instead of using one camera to film a scene, use 4+, then project them out into the center. Idk, im sure theres someone smart enough to figure it out.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I don't cause that's what my fiance does He recently got a huge raise off it too, which seems to be from his company getting a large pay out from the company that hired them, so if it does fail I think it'll take a long time, since these major companies are putting a lot of money into it. I can't imagine they're going to let it go so easily.

Also, I completely disagree with you about it being a step in the wrong direction. They way they do 3-D today is insanely different than the way it was done with the red+blue glasses time.

The camera's have been vastly improved etc. If anything this is one step closer to holographic images.

what you're talking about is similar to what they did in the matrix, but it is still extremely limited, and I doubt that's something they'd want to waste costs on.

Red+blue glasses seems to have stuck with people. When they think 3D, they think 'cheap pop-out' effect. With the new 3D tech, think depth perception like say you are looking in to a box. Or at least this is what I have been told.

Personally I think ^ would be brilliant for stuff like Discovery channel. Depth is the one thing missing from a great viewing experience.

Found this article about holographic TV. Pretty interesting.

Ya, this will be probably the biggest setback, is people not understanding the difference between old 3-d and new 3-d.

You are right though they are able to give depth perception now with new 3-d and that seems to be the goal vs. pop-out tricks.

Avatar in 3D is a good example of this, the "new" 3D

Holographic imagery is so far away, its not even worth bringing up. 3d applications seriously applied to every day programming is what we are talking about now. And i am excited for it.

On a side note, all the people with one working eye are getting butt hurt over this concept in the comment thread attatched to the article. heheh they are like, but what about me!! I have half a mind to go over there and tell them to stop crying in a very rude, and upseting manner.

Actually holographic TV could be out as early as 2020. That isn't too far away.

Yeah, people with astigamatisms in one eye, or with one-working eye won't be able to experience it properly or even at all. From what I've been told you need a fixed frame-rate for each eye. For TV it will probably be 60hz for each eye, so you will need a true 120hz HDTV for it to work. A lot of TV's on the market that claim to be 120hz aren't true 120hz, and artificially insert frames.

That doesn't make any sense they should be mad at their brains for requiring two eyes to see depth. With only one eye the entire world is 2d (not really but hello? depth perception?)

holographic tv's being estimated to be out in 2020 is code for 2050.

but yeah, dont get me wrong here. i feel bad for those who wont be able to experience the full quality of the picture. But, they will still be able to watch the movie as if it was done in 2d. aka like it is done today. but noooo, they are beging to stop the 3d experience from even startig because they cant see it in 3d. >.>

I'm assuming perscription glasses will correct this? I'm near sighted with an astigmatism in my left eye, and farsighted in my right eye but I wear corrective glasses.

Possibly, I wouldn't know as it doesn't affect me. You could always get an autostereoscopic 3D TV (the TV which doesn't require glasses). I'd assume that would work for prescription glasses-wearers.

I'm sure they'd have to figure something out, I can't imagine people wearing 2 pairs of glasses.

Does 3d tv work if I'm watching it while lying on my couch? No?

    Fuck it.

I saw Avatar in 3d and honestly the annoyance of the glasses outweighed the novelty of the 3d.

But then again, I slept through 3/4 of the movie so maybe the action sequences would have been cool.

I also kinda wish that this 3D craze would just die off, I don't find anything about it interesting, it's a gimmick.

Movie studios love it because it costs them almost nothing in comparison to the cost of the movie but are able to charge people more for the movie. How can you go wrong with that?!

This. What's the big deal about 3D anyway? I admit I haven't looked at the newest tech, but 3D on a 2D screen has always seemed gimmicky at best.
