Seriously i saw Avatar and maybe was me or the cinema i saw it was shitty but i got a headache at the end of the movie, i'd like more they focus on ultra-hdtv which from what i am hearing technology for it could be ready by 2012-2015.

As long as it requires glasses, I do not support any 3D nonsense. If it doesn't, then they need to come right the fuck out and say "Don't worry, no dipshit glasses this time guys." Otherwise, back to the labs for the Holovision.

I already wear one pair of glasses so I can see things normally, needing a second to watch something in 3D annoys me. If this doesn't use 3D glasses, I guess it is fine though.

I just plain don't understand this 3-D fad. It seems like a fun idea for visually intense or kiddy movies, but it adds nothing in terms of quality of content. This also seems pretty funny considering how the movie industry was pushing 3-D as a way of having a unique experience you couldn't get at home. I see the world in 3-D all day, all the time. I get it, big deal.

On second thought shopping on QVC and seeing that Quacker Factory shirt in my size could really help me decide whether or not to buy.

For what it's worth, ESPN was demoing some 3-D sports to their writers as well as some SportsIllustrated folks and they were all raving about it on Twitter. Take that for what's it worth, but they seemed rather blown away by it.

While things progress in steps, those steps are bigger than others.
For example VHS to DVD is bigger than DVD to BD. Radio to TV was bigger than BW to Color. 2D to pseudo 3D will be a small step than to real 3D, but sadly a necessary evil for more companys to make $ off of people, and for people to 'adapt' to new things.

If you take the computer industry for example, it seemingly evolved overnight from nothing, TV has been around forever. Everyone knows how to use a TV, and what it does, far from that percentage are people who know how to use a PC.

There are more people to take advantage of in the TV market. And im still pissed about BD, what nonsense it is.

Personally anoyed with how many more movies are going 3D. Granted majority of them are in the same genre. (G-PG) Watching Avatar in 3D just didn't do it for me. I could watch it just as well without the glasses. The surroundings were gorgeous but nothing we haven't seen already. 3D TV sounds boring tbh and you could save ALOT of money if you just hire one person to stand infront of a white background and move long objects back and forth towards the camera. /yawn

DVD is a gimmick. only made things marginally sharper.

They brought menu, bonus, "insta skip to the chapter you want", saved physical space (vhs were huge), better image quality, dont age with time. That was more than a simple gimmick.

DVD -> blu-ray is a tiny boost in quality (assuming you compress the hd to fit on the dvd). I'm not saying its a bad upgrade, but not all upgrade are the same.

While none of them are necessary and they could all be considered as "gimmick" to some extent, some are definitively more gimmicky than other.
