Anyone got good information regarding the no-glasses 3-D TVs?

Personally I want to call bullshit on it, but I want to be proven wrong that they found a way to fake depth on a flat display without some means of glasses or way of giving a different image per eye.

It's not 3-d per se but it can simulate depth of field as you move your head.

And I'm still wondering if I can lie on my couch and watch 3-d football with the current iterations of 3-d TV prototypes. This is important, people.

That isn't it. That demo wouldn't work for a 3d film, as it physically requires you to move around to get the illusion working. Sitting still, it won't do jack, especially for all the others trying to watch it with you.

After rereading last page, there is no whooshing at all, unless you want to whoosh Sephyuy on the way for saying the exact same thing I did, or Ksandra for mentioning that every upgrade are marginal, which is pretty much what I was addressing in my post.

Last time I got my eyes checked they had some new test that was somewhat like that; needless to say, i didn't see nuthin. I wish I could see all that cool shit, but I was cursed with horrible vision. It's pretty hard to see the first time, so you probably just have trouble focusing because of your eyesight or something (like you said)

For 3d stuff with glasses, you should be able to see the 3d effect without any problem. It has nothing to do with your eyes, but everything to do with the fact that 2 differents image go through both lens. If you close one eye, you see a picture, if you close the other, you see a different picture, just like in real life.

Not saying it's going to flop, but I personally don't plan on investing in any technology surrounding the matter. If you can provide some specifics on who to dump dollars on for a couple of shares I'd gladly look into it.

Yes you can. I asked, fiance tilts his head all the time while figuring stuff out at work and there's no difference. He said however for the tvs that don't need glasses you need to sit straight.

Well I hope it does, but who knows. It's always hard to predict the future, but like I said the whole industry is pushing for this so even if it fails I think it'll be a slow fall.

For personal-wise, luckily 3-d is not the only thing the company does, so in theory even if it crashes he'll still have a job at least. XD

Shit's dumb. No way in hell I'm putting on glasses over my glasses just to keep having to constantly focus on different layers. When I watch TV, I like to relax and not strain to see shit.

I saw avatar in 3D and while pretty, it was a pain sometimes to keep focus. Also, there were parts in the movie where it didn't seem like they were using the 3D at all.

It seems like the costs associated with the entire process on top of personal problems of potential consumers will cause 3D to fail.

Of course, I could be wrong and the shit takes off.

I doubt it'll move away from a niche product for at least another generation of the technology. Maybe in 5-10 years when all new TVs are 120Hz and PC/console games perfect it first. It's cool in huge imax theaters, but still far from seemless and most people aren't going to jump to buy new hardware after they've just upgraded to HDTV.
