And why it "doesnt make sense but it's a possibility"? I have no idea which post you are refering to, but my question applies to all 3.

This is why you come off as a douche. You are basically saying that the idea that there will ever be a pet class in the game is in the same realm of the game being released tomorrow.

There won't be any "fighter" type in game, because there is no class named fighter.

Stop being a jackass. One person's speculation doesn't make any more or less sense than the next...

Unless, the next speculation is based solely upon the naming pattern of the few announced classes in another language. Then, his speculation probably makes a lot more sense than the next.

Use their weapons. This basically means "fighting". It doesn't, however, mean controlling pets.

No, there are things that make other person's speculation more believable than the others. You can say "hey, I think the combat system in XIV will resemble the one from Last Remnant, even though SE has not even hinted at it being like that nor does any info released so far point into that direction" or you can have speculation that is based on what SE has told us so far And the info released. One of those 2 speculations makes more sense. Guess which one.

Like I said before, what is stopping "small axe user" from gaining the ability (charm)?

Nothing. If it's specific to that class or not is another case.

Basically, there is speculation that makes sense, and speculation that doesn't. There is also speculation that makes more or less sense than others. If I see speculation that, imo, doesn't make sense, I will tell why.

So what if it is not specific to that class? Do you think that sword users will be able to gain white magic abilities?

Then I don't think that there will be a pet "class" in the game because everyone can use the ability. You can be "small axe-user" but that wouldn't make you any more "pet class" than sword-user. Every class is a pet class. That would make sense to me, based on the info given so far, but doesn't make it a fact that it will be like this in the end.

I am flabbergasted that you think your assumptions on the job system are the only things that can stand up right now because they are based on the extremely limited and roughly-translated disciple names.

Even IF you are completely correct and that the names of every disciple of war will be named after their primary weapon which cannot ever imply the charming of or summoning of a pet and therefor WILL NOT HAPPEN... That still does not mean a mage-type job cannot eventually emerge that is titled something along the lines of Thaumaturge's "miracle worker" with the primary ability to charm monsters with the use of magic. Being called an "enchanter" would not break your indestructible assumption of jobs only doing exactly what they are named and it would still yield a class based on using an NPC in battle.

No go try to plug the holes in your theory until we get some real information on how the system works.

I said general. There is no general pattern that encompasses all 4 disciplines, because each of the 2 categories officially revealed is already different, and thats why i listed each different pattern. And thats a FACT too!

Not probable in d.o.War? i agree.

lol bad ideas and assumptions don't need correcting at this point, especially when no one has enough information to be an authority on the subject. hence no need to shoot down at this point.
I too dislike mindless fanboy ranting for the sake of it, but do note that none of that was actually happening in this thread.

If the game is remotely balanced, you would have to use your pet if you had an axe equiped and wanted to do good.

Customization is one thing, but you won't be equiping model just for the look, you know there will be a system behind it. If axe weapon are going to be linked to pet, axe user will be the "pet job"

So the idea of fighting along side a pet make sense now? How about I blow your mind with "Beast user" as a straight up class.

I, too, am flabbergasted about your hostility towards me. My assumptions are not the only things that can stand up right now, and if there is something better, I would not hesitate to believe that instead. What makes most sense, basically. I didn't come up with my theories myself either, so it's not like I am trying to defend my own precious ideas when they're not even mine. So far it makes most sense to me, that is all.

You also misunderstood my assumption. The class names do not reflect the only things that the class can do, but the primary weapon or magic type they will use. Because they are so -neutral- is why I think it makes sense. Do you think that SE changed the names because they sound cooler (axe-user vs. dark knight) or because they don't want to lock the classes to just one role (which they have said in the past). Which one makes more sense to you? Both are possibilities, but one of them makes more sense. Which one would you rather believe for now?

I have also said earlier in this thread that it is quite possible that a magic user can use charm-type magic and therefore fit into the class system, which would make my theory wrong. I did not deny it. Please don't talk about things that have already been discussed.

So the idea of fighting along side a pet make sense now? How about I blow your mind with "Beast user" as a straight up class.
It always has made sense, have you even read the thread? "Beast user" makes sense too, as long as the pet is considered to be the weapon type. However, it doesn't make much sense to allow for much customization and then suddenly take it away by having only one pet class available, instead of allowing every class to be one.

technically half true, because although there is no class that says fighter, the japanese name equivalent of "Disciple of War" is literally called "Fighter" (in phonetics), so all Disciple of War classes are 'fighters' but i doubt any specific class will be called fighter since its so generic and would result in name clashes..

similarly there probably shouldnt be mages called Sorcerers, HELM-esque activity people called Gatherers, or a craft profession called Crafter.

That would make sense, but you can't say that because we can't know for sure! Before SE right up tells us that there will not be classes like that, you better keep your mouth shut or you'll have miokomioko up your ass.

Really hope they don't add pet classes, they were the laughing stock of the jobs back when I played that ended with:

Bst's qq'ing that they aren't up to par and weren't of much use outside of solo'ing some bcnm's or rarely brought in at Tiamat to help out crowd control but it was nothing a few blms couldn't handle. Hell there was even confusion at SE by saying it "isn't a solo class" when they nerfed how release was done.

Summoners crying they were nothing more than a glorified whm their whole leveling career which went on till smn burns started showing up or if they were lucky enough to pull for a manaburn party.

Pup's were lame during the entire time I played, honestly this was a horrible idea by SE when they could have put in a more classic like job (Geomancer). Keep in mind I left the game around march of 07.

I thought the Summoner mechanic's were really lame in FFXI. Don't get me wrong, they did nice some nice damage on endgame mobs but the class was really flawed in my opinion. There was a lot more they could have done with the class and it just felt like they gave up on it all together.

If they do add them in 14 they better do a hell of a lot better job with them and make them worthwhile the entire time instead of gimmick situations.
