CES 2010 - March of the 3D Droids

There's so much stuff to highlight at this year's CES that it's tough to cover it all in one shot, so to get started here's a look at the computer graphics war..

    - AMD's new line of Radeon Mobility 5-series GPUs is on display and it looks like they've pulled off NVidia's mobile graphics crown for the moment. The new Mobility 5870 provides comparable graphics quality to the desktop model 5770 and is the first mobile GPU to be DirectX11 ready.

    Here's the GPU running on a dual-screen JP-market laptop:

The Mobility 5x series also has the same "Eyefinity" capabilities as its desktop cousins. This next pic has the GPU hooked up to a netbook via a special "graphics module". Sorry kids, no word on whether this box will be available to the public.. yet!:

Not to be left behind, NVidia did have a booth running a prototype DX11-compatible graphics card believed to be running the highly anticipated Fermi GPU:

I'll post other stuff as I can get to it.. work n stuff getting in the way

Intel officially announced the release of a whole bunch of new Core i-Series processors based on their 32nm process yesterday.. here's a rundown:

Edit: It should also be mentioned that there are also now five chipset platforms available for LGA1156 CPUs. The P55 was the first to be released and is the base for the others (P57, H55, H57, and Q57). The Differences?

    - H55/H57/Q57 are unable to divide the PCI-E bus, which means they do not support Crossfire/SLI setus. P55 and P57 can.
    - H55, H57 and Q57 are designed to activate the built-in graphics processor on the new 32nm CPUs. P55 and P57 will support these processors, but not the integrated graphics.
    - H55 & H57 supports two additional USB ports on the motherboard.
    - H55, H57 & Q57 do not support matrix storage (RAID).
    - Q57 is designed for business workstations with support for special encryption & anti-theft measures.

USB cigarettes! Whats in them? Can I smoke them while pregnant? That sonic walker looks cool too as does that panda looking language bot. That Intel core-i7 860 is pretty sexy as is that Intel Centrino Ultimate 6300 card.

The gaming glove is back! Hopefully it won't overheat and melt into your skin this time..

Panasonic gets the nuts award for their 152-inch 3D Plasma television.. No spoiler for this one!

Might just be me but this year does not seem to have any buzz worthy products. Some cool prototypes but where are the new, sexy, consumer-ready products?

Most of the buzz this year was Droid phones and tablet readers, with the late entry of the 3D stuff. And a fuckton of netbooks.

I was looking deliberately for some ideas of upcoming games and didn't see anything we haven't already heard about.

I saw the first generation of that dual screen netbook in Tokyo last month. I was tempted to buy, but for $800? I dunno. Plus, it felt like it could fall apart easy or wouldn't last long. Kohjinsha has a bunch of mini-netbooks there as well, like the size of a LL/XL DS. They were all around the ¥50,000~ ($500.00) range.

I'm more interested in the "Smartbooks" coming out soon. Basically the ARM based netbooks. The CPU is low power, like the ones used in cell phones, so cuts down the cost on the battery and the overall cost of the unit itself. Hopefully looking around $150-$200. But of course, Windows desktop OS don't support ARM, so it'll most likely be Linux OSes taking advantage of it. I'm a Linux user myself, so I don't mind.

Any new and amazing tablets coming out soon? I've been looking for something I can carry around when I get on the train to travel. My MSI Wind is starting to annoy me in certain aspects.

Will do.. First up here's HP's new offerings featuring the new "Pine Trail" Atom CPU:

    Here's a "smartbook" aka a mini-netbook from Lenovo.. thing looks like a Speak-n-Spell.

Even Dell's Alienware has gotten into the netbook arena. Yes, they say it'll run Crysis.

Here's a look at Samsung's offering, running a new SUSE Linux variant called "Moblin"

LG joined in by displaying its 17.6mm-thick netbook. No word on price or if it will be available in anything but this plain ol' white..

A quick, possibly fail in nature, google search tells me that the "pine trail" Atom CPUs are dual core. This, this is delicious news.

that eeepc 1201n is the first netbook to use the atom n330 and the nvidia ion. the n330 started getting put into higher end(lol) netbooks near the end of last year.

coupled with the ion, it actually becomes a viable, albeit basic, gaming netbook. it can run call of duty 4 at a decent speed.

also, i want that big ass tv, even though i don't even think a 13 foot tv would fit in my living room lol
