vehicle summons are the main reason I'm not going nuts over FFXIII. that may seem shallow, but they're a symbol of the overall change in direction that I just don't like. I wouldn't even call it a bad direction for the series, but it doesn't fit my taste, and Shiva turning into a fucking motorcycle is a perfect example of that change.
I mean, I'll play it eventually just because it's an FF game, but I'm in no rush to get a 360 or PS3 just to play it.
This post makes perfect sense and I would not be surprised if this is the main plan in the least. Let the XIII franchise and XIV hang around for quite a few years, and then have major hype when the next "numbered" game comes out after "many long years" of waiting.
In this current state of the world economy they can't really afford to go out on any limbs. Games like FF keep SE afloat so they can make their other minor games. The JRPG style of games is a dying bread but somehow it still has a huge fan following around the world. Is this because of the type of game or because of the high production value given to a FF game?
To me it just sounds like SE wants to lower the bar a bit and try and have these minds put out a game a year instead of a AAA game every 3-4 years.
Lets be honest hear, FF12 was not the most phenomenal game at least in terms of combat. From what I hear 13 expounds on 12's combat system to make it feel smoother and better. However, most of us would much rather go back to the time of a menu and the ATB of previous games. We will see FF continue on. Even if its for the PsP and the DS.
In the end its too early for even a CEO to be telling the world there will be no FF15 when 13 hasnt even seen release outside of Japan. If numbers are what most people expect them to be. A CEO would get his pinkslip for not wanting to match that with a sequel.
I would love a high-end big-budget old-school turn-based game. FFXIII is what it is, and I imagine it will be great and I will enjoy it. Short of Lost Odyssey there hasn't been much old school console RPG fare this generation.
As much as I love Lost Odyssey, the battle system was not a part of that love. Hell, LO would have been awesome with any battle system, the story, characters and music were that good.
Yep, I almost quit LO because of the horror that was turn based random encounters. Never again, please.
Or if you don't like old-school JRPGs... don't buy them? How hard is it to do your fucking research before you buy something? No offense intended, but it seems like common sense.
Namely avoid any of the shit that Atlus puts out. When was their last good game? Well.. They are bringing out Metal Slug XX, so thats good at least.
Not saying I didn't like the game's other aspects, but dear god the combat..
