NBC continuing to fail

Pressed by affiliates and shrinking ratings, NBC has a plan in the works to radically alter its late-night television lineup, restoring Jay Leno to his old spot at 11:35 each weeknight, while pushing the man who replaced him, Conan O’Brien, to a starting time of 12:05 a.m.

NBC executives held extensive discussions with Mr. Leno and Mr. O’Brien on Thursday about the future of the network’s late-night lineup.

And while NBC officially said no final decision on the plan had been made, two senior NBC executives who had talked to the top management about the moves said that under the plan being discussed, Mr. Leno would definitely shift back to 11:35 but in a half-hour format, while Mr. O’Brien would slide back his start time by a half hour and then produce an hourlong show.

“We remain committed to keeping Conan O’Brien on NBC,” the network said in a statement Thursday evening. “He is a valued part of our late-night lineup, as he has been for more than 16 years, and is one of the most respected entertainers on television.”

The third NBC late-night star, Jimmy Fallon, would then begin his show at 1:05 a.m., the executives said. The revised lineup would go into effect after NBC concludes its coverage of the Winter Olympics on Feb. 28. NBC will pre-empt its prime-time and late-night lineup for more than two weeks to cover the Olympics, creating a natural break in which to put the late-night changes into effect.

I mean, Conan was a little funnier at his midnight time slot because of more stuff he could do, but Leno's primetime show sucked, don't push Conan back another half hour, shits dumb.

As long as Conan doesn't get fired I will still be happy. I'm not sure if NBC is just afraid to get rid of leno all together because that would open him up to working for a rival network so they just give him what they can to their own detriment.

Ya, sucks Conan is getting hit hard. Jay just needs to stop hosting. Making guest apperances on Conan would have been fine. If NBC really wants to get viewers, they need to get Jon Stewart, but GL with that. Lol.

Conan was doing alright before The Jay Leno show started, the ratings were good. As soon as the ratings for the jay leno show began to drop so did the tonight shows ratings. People changed the channel at 10 and never bothered to change back after the 11pm news.


I watched Conan almost everyday when he was on at 12:35am, So i was glad he moved up (a promotion if you want to call it that) to The Tonight show, Jay had his moments but not enough to make me watch him on the tonight show. NBC gave Leno his own show because they were afraid he would go to another station and host a show. Now because Jays show is tanking they wanna screw over Conan by either removing him from the tonight show or kicking him back to his 12:35 slot. Jay still has about 1 1/2 years left on his contract with NBC so if they let him go they have to pay him and they fear he may just run to another station.

Though I hope the later slot would help Conan. The early one really does cut his legs out from under him. I miss stuff like the wrong lullaby, and the staring contests.

Where would he go though? CBS, NBC, and ABC are full. That just leaves Fox, CW, and lolMyNetworkTV (shortbusFOX). Actually, is that last one even still going? I haven't even turned to that station since UPN/Enterprise ended.

He did a skit during the end of his 12:30 run where he "retired" the masturbating bear. Froze it in carbonite. And then it got weird. But yeah, it's gone.

Masturbating bear has never been on since he moved from NY. I'm sure the real reason was because he could get away with more at the 12:35 time slot. He still has triumph on at times, it kinda sucks they don't do Preparation H Raymond.

As far as where Jay would go, it was rumored to be between CBS and ABC back when no one knew about him getting another show on NBC, now there are rumors about lolFOX. Most likely Conan will get screwed and moved back 1 hr.

If that happens, I would be pissed at how they fuck over Conan, but would also be happy that Jimmy Fallon would move or get taken off. I can't stand his show he fucking sucks.


As far as MyNetwork TV they only show reruns of shows except thursday and fridays ( usually a movie on thursday and smackdown on friday).

Hmm, yeah, NBC and CW are falling off. And ABC has it's two shows in limbo atm.
It messes with my head that FOX has a decent entertainment side (despite the reality shows and constant cancellations (run Family Guy uncancellation bit)) but a complete shit news side. And the network for "old people" still has legs.

I like Fallon for the music mostly. He usually has the better/more obscure bands on. Not to mention for whatever reason Conan's sound always sounds terrible when bands play.

When i first watched the tonight show with jay I liked it, but as time went on it got boring, he would do the same bits almost every week. Conan does the same ones but not as much as Jay.

Jay - Headlines Jay~walk all stars. now he has JMZ and the top ten at 10.
Then there is the Green car challenge which is just a cheap plug for Ford. ( i think its ford)

Conan now has more things he can switch around. - Noches de pasion con senor Conan O' Brien. Twitter tracker, Year 3000, Audience Plugs, Audience awards and Triumph. There are more but i cannot remember.

I've been DVRing Conan every night since he's been on, even if I can't watch him all the time. Noches de pasion has got to be one of my favorite new ones. The fall scenes always get me for some reason. Twitter trackers pretty awesome too though.

I rarely watch any primetime TV on the networks, only House and occasionally Bones. I actually watch more cable channels than anything, but still only between 0-3 hours a day. I used to watch so much TV, computers have completely changed me

CW also has Legend of the Seeker. That and Supernatural , and Mythbusters are the only shows that I watch religiously. Family Guy, American Dad etc are recorded

iirc, Seeker is syndication, so the network its on depends on your local affiliates.
