I think the lameness of the bosses in this game is captured perfectly by the hyped-up Killer Croc encounter. Scary dramatic music plays, he jumps up from the water like out of some scary monster movie, and you one-shot him with a batarang you didn't even need to aim. Rinse and repeat ten or so times as you walk around. Most of them are little more than minor distractions. Rocksteady must have been aware how fucking lame these boss battles were, because you spend more time fighting grunts in half of them. The final boss was just downright offensive in terms of character, visuals, and how it played. An exemplary fuck up to end a game full of horrible bosses with.

The stealth sections are easily the high point of the game.
The top part is spot-on but stealth wut? stealth revolves around finding the neares gargoyle and wtfpwning from the skies.

As for dying, all of the newest games I've played when you die you just restart from the nearest checkpoint, so I don't see with is it a big deal for you. He is after all the motherfucking Batman.

Lacks pictures, youtube videos and google ads and its late on top of it.

I'll agree that it was way too easy even on the hardest setting. But saying that, it was still better than I thought it was going to be, but then, I had low expectations for it.

Get rid of the stupid coup de grace title for your conclusion; it makes little sense and comes off as trying too hard to be witty/edgy.

reconcile, clearly, what the problem is with the control "hiccups". my impression is that there's occasional inconsistency between what you expect as a player versus what happens- state that more clearly if that's the case, and then quantify how detrimental it is. Is it a minor, sparse annoyance that doesn't really affect the overall combat experience or is it a major deterrence that makes you hate any brawling in the game (or somewhere in between). Your current assessment also seems at odds with how easy you claim the game to be- "see it's so easy that I put it on hard and only use one button for fighting.... goddamit the batman didn't oneshot that dude exactly like I wanted for the combo extension!"

your commentary on character models comes across a bit like trying too hard to be funny/edgy. if that's your audience though, so be it, but from the way you generally post about games I don't think you're writing for the "motherfucking hideous" "ugly looking dudes" that might find the descriptions in that paragraph entertaining. Comparing to plastic figures is much more effective and descriptive (personally I saw a McFarlane-esque resemblance in the models, so your description here makes a stronger connection). And you can say beyond that plastic-figure look, that they look like ugly figures.

Otherwise, pretty solid. Where/who is this review for?

also I'd be interested to see you write a review for a game you actually like. but I'd totally understand if you limited your efforts to unduly well-received games.

I do have a list of games I am interested in reviewing, assuming I don't burn myself out. Most of them are 3D beat-em-ups which I have a lot of love for. So I could review an underrated game like Godhand or a classic like Devil May Cry 1(then the rest of the series) or Onimusha. (I am more interested in reviewing older games from one or two generations ago. EDIT: To those who say this is late, I don't believe reviews need to be released in a specific time period. I don't need to be current. That's is an advantage only for the competing videogame magazines and websites.)

I just did this review for fun and just to see if I could do it.

What I meant by hiccups is what you described - unexpected results. It is minor, but it happens very often. At least once in every large scale fight(let's say against 5 or more opponents). It doesn't up the difficulty much, but it is annoying as hell. Perhaps I put too much emphasis on it, but it just stands out so much because battle is otherwise a simple, but elegant dance. Thinking it about it further, I could see it being a huge frustration for those who might play for score in the Challenge rooms.

I was trying to keep some of my tone casual, but I suppose I might have crossed a line. Anyway I am going to use what you said(and others) and put some more work into this.

Tajin: The stealth portions weren't really difficult, but doing it that way isn't even the best way to go about it. It certainly isn't the funnest. Also those sections had potential, but they are not currently enough to make the game great. (So if Batman AA was nothing but those sections without improvements it still wouldn't have been rated much higher by me. MAYBE 3/5 at most.)

sorry if it was mentioned but "The main appeal would the freedom" forgot the word "be" I assume. also personal preference but I would say "ambivalent towards" not "ambivalent for". "and leaving him stringed up" should be strung.

I totally saw that ninja edit >_> And Batman only goes in stealth; and then it turns into a brawl, so you cant really have a Batman game to play like MGS and still call it Batman IMO

That review was pretty much spot on, although I think if you're going to review more games you should do it without a numerical score at the end since people tend to look at only that and ignore the rest of what you wrote.

I think the problem with Batman is exactly the same as Prince of Persia, in that it's basically the gaming equivalent to a summer blockbuster movie- highly polished (or overproduced), mindless fun, but made primarily to appeal to as large of an audience as possible and thus usually too easy or otherwise lacking.

That's not to say it isn't entertaining, I had fun playing Batman and I still own it... but then again, much like with movies I tend to like everything I play/watch.
