Change in Blizzard Admin Restoration Policy

Basically the teal deer version is this: If your account gets hacked and the character ransacked and/or deleted the Blizzard admin will not restore your character by default. Instead you will be offered a "care package" instead of a complete character restoration which consists of:

* 2,500 gold
* 2 Emblems of Frost
* 10 Emblems of Triumph for every day the players has had to wait to receive the care package


If you choose not to receive the care package and go for the full restore, you'll be put in a queue which can take several weeks up to a month to restore. The reasons why Blizzard decided to do this are outlined in the article above.


I suggest everyone who does not use an Authenticator to get one now. Please be careful where you visit on the internets. It's a total load of bullcrap, but it helps to be a little safe than sorry.

Or you can carry on and just wait for them to restore your characters like they do now. All this really is them trying to cut down the line a bit by telling impatient bastards they can have a clean slate to work from so to speak.

That's a sweet deal if someone hacked your totally naked level 72 Druid account that you have no idea why you keep paying for!

Mostly, this smells a lot like the Mog Satchel, except from the other direction. SE made a major in-game benefit that couldn't be resisted as a carrot to get us all to buy authenticators. Since the Core Hound Pup is hardly as broken as the Mog Satchel in terms of benefit, though, Blizzard is apparently pulling out a stick and hoping to beat us into submission, instead.

According to sources familiar with the situation, this "care package policy" has been implemented in order to lighten the work load of those Blizzard employees who perform account restorations. Similar policies have existed at other times account compromises have been high, such as during the transition from Vanilla WoW to The Burning Crusade.

While I can't say this for sure but this is how I read this as:


They are receiving a high volume of stolen items/accounts. It's very possible that many (or at least some) of these accounts are not lvl 80s. They are probably giving this option so that lower level/undergeared players will choose to accept the package which could be similar or better to what they have. So as to lighten the load for those that want to wait to get the full restoration.

but ya as it seems like this is just an option, you can wait to get your account restored it will just take much longer.

Yeah I understand it's an option, as opposed to waiting a few weeks.

But if that care package gives you a naked toon whats the point lol. It would make sense for non 80's, in fact it would be pretty cool to get the gold on a non 80... but it sucks that instead of waiting a day or 3 like before, we have to either wait several weeks or get just some gold in place of it.

At least I have an authenticator, I bought 2 of them the week they came out. Pretty obvious now that If you don't have one you are a fool.

high volume is high volume though and they are just trying to find a way to make it faster. It does suck I agree, but they're trying to find ways to not suck so much.

3 days sounds short too, when my friend got his acc stolen (4 months ago?)it took over a week to get his stuff back, and about two weeks for the guild leader to get the guild bank back. SO this really isn't that much different.

That is some pretty heavy wait times. I've never waited more than 3days to get everything restored (gold items gear, everything but my hunters fucking pet).

Last time I had a problem I already had an authenticator attached, that day only took about an hour.

Guild bank restores I've always known to take forever.

edit: that reminds me, how are these account farmers so fucking cruel that they would abandon your pets. Bastards. Leaving you naked in the middle of nowhere can be humorous sure... but why touch the aminals ; ;

2500g can buy you a full set of epic 200s in most places, at which point you can jump right back into heroics and get back up to par.

Though I'd imagine that includes zero rep so that could suck.

It does create a whole new avenue for people who are terribad too...get people with awful gear or none at all in some slots, give them a wtfbbq, and get a "dude i was hacked" response back. I'd feel pretty bad about kicking someone in that case >.>

Yeah, 2 frost has to be a typo. 20 at least springboards you close to a 264 piece and/or can be bought down to triumphs if you really need something there.

noooo shit. on month 3 for my ffxi acct. and they tried to give it back to me without rolling it back, just resetting my passwords. 3 months for a password reset. fuck se.

That's a pretty bad deal in overall. That said, gears in wow doesnt really matter, and unless you're at the top end of your server, it's just a matter of day to get it back (or wait for next update)

After 3.3 the wife got phished and took the bait. The week of Christmas we were on vacation and she got hacked. Sad thing was she had the authenticator before we left for vacation but didn't activate it. get home and all her toons are naked. We aren't involved in any guilds so didn't have to worry about any bank. She placed the GM call and took about a week to get the "Care Package". This was our first hacking in 8 years of gaming so this was new to us.

Both her 80's got all their gear back and about 90% of the bag/bank items back. Also got the Emblems and gold on each 80. Her 2 lvl 70's got their gear, but the bag items and gold were gone.

Over all she came out ahead because she was pretty broke from buying epic flying for her alts and my alts and because of leveling alts she really didn't have any emblems to begin with.

From what I can tell Wow.com misreported this. While care packages are offered, you still get your characters restored and as many items as they can easily find. If you don't want the care package, you respond to the specialist's email and they do a full recovery. You don't lose your place in the queue or anything like that
