Personal loans, or Government loans, a few questions.

Ok so here's the deal, i'm getting fed up with my house (before anything is said, my sister is autistic and an extremely annoying bitch because my parents raised her wrong, my parents just basically keep hinting me to gtfo of the house yet they don't wanna kick me out, most likely to continue to use me for running pointless errands because they're too lazy) as the days pass by more and more, my girlfriend (she doesn't live with me but she wants to come with me) and I want to move out, badly.

    However, here's the problem:

Currently, i've been out of a job for 2 months, and I have about $6k in debt (including car, credit cards). I got fired from my previous job before the 90 day "grace period" so i couldn't file for unemployment at that position or anything. I've been trying to find a job the whole time, but due to the holidays, everything has been booked and it's extremely hard to find one still.

I go to school for my bachelor's still, however i've been trying to fight to get financial aid forever (filing as an independent, but due to me screwing up and dropping classes at the start and going to academic probation) they really don't want to approve me.

I've been discussing with my gf about getting a personal loan from the bank, or getting a government loan or anything like that along the lines, mainly to get ourselves an apartment and getting me off that ~$6k debt at the same time. That way I would only have 1 payment to worry about along with the apartment and the usual extras (gas, electricity, water, internet, tv).

It is a lot of money, but i'm planning on actually doing this once I land a job or 2 of course. I'm taking huge risks but it's gotten to the point where i've become desperate for money.

I know it sounds like i'm being a bitch about "not taking advantage of the fact that I have a roof under my head" but it's the fact that my parents giving me these hints, and my sister being a badly raised brat, it's gotten to the point where i'm finding it almost impossible to suppress my anger.

sorry for the tl;dr, just need to see if there's any advice on the getting a bank loan or other loan thing.

are you talking about a student loan from a bank?
    like www.studenloan.com for citibank.
They are relatively easy to get- as you can basically never ever get out of them, even with bankruptcy. You can get ~$10k extra over your tuition a year for housing costs, travel costs, books, etc. that you can use for whatever you want.

You won't be accepted for a personal loan, I have almost no doubt about that. You can get a student loan, but as the previous poster said there's basically no way out of the debt if at some point you can't afford it.

My suggestion would be for you to get a job, suck it up at your parents house while you save money, once you have 4 months of rent saved up then you can consider moving out.

This is going to come off as being pretty offensive but here goes: Considering how you've made decisions thus far (you screwed yourself out of financial aid, you got yourself fired from a job, etc) I'd suggest doing the exact opposite of what you THINK you should do.

Getting a loan won't get you out of 6k of debt, it will only shift that debt to a different location. Considering you have no job, debt, and likely poor credit, you CAN'T get a loan from a bank. You should check your credit rating. In this economy, getting a loan from a bank or a government loan requires a credit score somewhere over 690, most likely. Certainly that would be required to get a loan with an interest rate that is reasonable.

So you're best bet is to:
    1. Get a job
    2. drop all unneccesary expenses. Cell phone downgraded. Don't go out. Buy cheap food. Save every penny.
    3. Save up and erase debt
    4. Improve employment enough to move into apt.

Yea, i've realized if i were to go with such a loan it'll throw me in the hole even worse. Needed some advice and thanks.

Unfortunately, i don't know how much more i'm gonna suck it up at home, living expenses here in miami are complete bullshit, overpriced like no other so you can't really live w/o a $30k/year job minimum, and jobs like that are tough to find right now, retail won't get you shit. Basically it's the best way i'll get out of my debt as well, the car is paid off in 2 months that'll be a huge weight lifted off my shoulder and i'll be able to tackle credit cards one by one.

No. You cant really live the way YOUR USED TO. Anywhere, Miami, NY, LA, San Diego etc etc, you can live just fine making much less than that. But to add to the others, stay at your current place, minimize expenses and just save up every dime you can for the next 6 months. Job, work on debt as you can etc etc...But getting another loan just to pay off your current debts just wont solve anything at this point really.

I would reiterate- The issue is not whether getting a loan is a good idea. The issue is that you most likely can't get a loan to begin with. Focus on cutting expenses and getting a job asap.

Sit down and write out everything you spend money on. For the next month, every dollar that goes out gets written down. You'd be surprised how much gets spent on unimportant things. Then mark down all the useless crap you can cut out per month and add it up and multiply it by 12. It will be more than you think, I think. If you have a $1.25 soda every day, thats 37.5 a month. Doesn't seem like a lot but thats 450 a year. Little things add up.

That is true, gotta live w/ a cup noodle diet for now. lol

My phone is pretty much down to a minimum. It's been that way for a while, but finding a job is pretty much a tough deal right now. (people prefer to hire the refs and pay them the bare minimum than have someone w/ experience more than often here.)

As for getting fired is concerned, unfortunately, it was me and a few others that got fired, managers love to blame the employees, however, they don't realize the truth is that the store i worked in barely got customers, and there's usually a 3:1 ratio of employees to customers. The store is doing bad anyways, so i won't be surprised that place will close down.

Also, I gotta save up to take my CCNA certification exams. I dono how much that'll cost.

bags of apples, peanut butter, bread, broccoli, and (if you have a bit of extra cash) meat on clearance since it is about to expire. tastes better and you will be healthier at the end of your money problems. avoid the mistake so many make... avoid the salty noodles.
