    Cheap sound card

So I built my sister a PC for christmas, didn't get her a sound card cause she really didn't need it.

In ventrilo i've been noticing a buzzing from her headsets mic that wasn't there prior to building the computer, since I don't know what it is, I think a cheap soundcard could easily fix the problem.

The buzzing seems to change to a different tone almost every time she speaks, if anyone has some kind of solution I'd be glad to hear it. Otherwise I'm going to have to drop around 100$ on a new headset, or try to get a cheap soundcard (recommendation for that would also be great)

    thanks.

Try plugging your mic into the back of the computer first (directly into the onboard sound) if it isn't already. Unplug everything you don't need except speakers/headphones and the mic. If it still hums then something isn't grounded properly, which your new sound card will fix.

There was a Xonar DX Open Box for the same price the other day... not there anymore though.

I'd avoid Creative personally. Their 64-bit drivers suck ass--before I put a temporary solution in place, my speakers were crackling and popping with every sound. (The temporary solution: limit the amount of memory accessed by windows to less than the full 4 GB.)

Is the card in place firmly with no loose parts? Vibration can cause that to happen.
