FFXI Install on Win7 without Disks

Ok, I've been looking around for a while and I've yet to find a way of properly doing this.

Basically, my disks are in a different continent and I want to move FFXI to my new machine.
I've tried the usual method of moving all files, copy/pasting the registry, and then using a batch file to load the .dll's without success.

I tried installing the Windows 7 POL and I keep getting Error:022 "FFXI is not Installed". I've made sure all of the registry and install paths are on par for the windows 7 directory (x86 and Wow6432Node respectively) and it still doesn't recognize it.

File check doesn't work either; it just checks for POL files and ignores anything FFXI related.

Has anyone successfully moved FFXI to Windows 7 without the install disks?

I'd just prefer if I didn't have to download the whole thing =/

Bit of a shot in the dark here, but did you move from a 32 to a 64 bit OS?

I tried doing the same thing, moving my xp x64 install to a w7 x64, and was met with nothing but problems. I ended up just repurchasing ffxi on steam and patching overnight. I'd recommend either that or a torrent.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT USE STEAM FOR FFXI

Now that I have your attention, steam does not support the windower, or even the SE sanctioned windowed mode

I could go on, but I had a technical issue with Steam due to me moving my files from C: to D: (across my partitioned hard drives, one is smaller than the other). Obviously this was a mistake, but being a first time user I didn't understand the ramifications.

In any case, this was Thursday, it is now Sunday. I have yet to hear from technical support. Fkng awful.

Obviously I bought a hard copy on Friday, 20 ucks down the drain. But seriously never use Steam if you can avoid it. Such garbage.

    Huh?

I haven't had a single issue with using the game after downloading it through Steam. Official windowed mode worked perfectly fine, and the windower hasn't given me a problem yet either.
