The one part I'll disagree with is that anything you can DD tank well NIN will almost certainly outperform both RDM and PLD, minus Excal, assuming top-notch gear, Kikoku helps here as well.

Maths may correct me, but I doubt it. A perfect NIN with relic, double march, haste, samba, using pizza will destroy the damage potential of PLD while still being able to tank extremely efficiently (if you can do full melee damage you obviously won't need to be spamming spells for hate)

Does it require more support? Oh of fucking course. Is it extremely situational? Most definitely. Doesn't make it not true though.

Anyways that's the absolute extreme of the range though. The average to even above-average NIN these days has no place outside of being used for ones own amusement in their own time.

Anything you could DD-tank on NIN that requires shadows, use DRK. Anything you could DD-tank on NIN that doesn't require shadows, use SAM.

If a BST friend of yours tell you Snarl makes it possible for BLU/THF and DD/THF to SATA on wyrms/Cerb/Khimy without triggering Flailspike/Scorching Lash/Plague Swipe, will you actually consider bringing a BST to those fight?

Can't blame a linkshell for choosing the safest approach in the best interest of their members.

Can you think of any endgame level NM/HNM that fits those criteria? Anything can be DD tanked well tend to resist magical attack and chances are your NIN will not be able to hold hate against 2-hand DDs.

As good as you were at tanking on NIN, how good do you think you would've been with the same quality gear and some experience on PLD or RDM?

You know me, and know how much I like NIN. I hate saying that it sucks, but it's the honest truth, and the louder we shout it, the infinitesimally better the chances get of SE doing anything about it.

If done correctly, Snarl completely eliminates the risk of spikeflail. BLU/THF will be able to spam SATA + cannonball at will.

None. But you forgot that ninjas have a subjob to play with. PLD and RDM really don't.

If what you're tanking is IT or weaker, then chances are a ninja can out-DD either tank with that newfangled pizza and /war without sacrificing the reliability of shadows (i.e., going 2-hander/sam).

If it's "endgame level" (IT++) then we're suddenly talking about nin/drk. It's no longer about damage but enmity and adequate defense. And nin/drk simply trades blows with the competing tanks.

What I see in the endgame community is that since PLD is easier to tank with, players have invested heavily in PLD gear, greatly bringing up the standard of an endgame PLD. NINs, being harder to work with and further ignored, on average seem clueless as to what to wear to DD or to tank. It's almost like there are more copies of the 100 mill. aegis than there are of the 500k arhat's gi +1. RDMs are in a similar but perhaps less extreme situation.

Give me a good reason why a LS should invest their resource in gearing up a NIN tank.

Taruking, I'd stop here if I were you before Rich posts his screenshots of himself tanking AV/PW on NIN. He's what you'd call a "tank", who happens to prefer NIN over other jobs due to personal reasons; he tanked just as fine on other jobs, but that was his prefered one, same as PLD, RDM, SAM or DRK can be the prefered jobs of other people.

As a matter of fact, PLD/RDM is a popular combination and RDM/PLD are situationally useful too.
