Hey I'm getting tired of playing black ops and other call of duty games and was wondering about maybe some good rpg or action games that would be good to pick up.
I pretty much literally only have cods and ffxiii.
How are assassins creed games or dantes inferno ?
Would reccomend the AC games easily, I personally enjoyed Dante's Inferno, as for an RPG I would recommend Mass Effect 2 for sure.
Tales of Vesperia was pretty solid as an RPG, too. Heard Lost Odyssey was good, but it's been sitting in my pile for a while now since I've been tied up by other things.
Lost Odyssey is fucking awesome.
Also I would definitely pick up something like Darksiders or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow instead of Dante's Inferno.
Castlevania on the 360 was the inferior version if you also have a PS3 though.
Um, Enslaved is good - cheap now too. Red Dead Redemption if you never played it. Fable II/III are fun enough as well - I wouldn't say they live up to the hype, but you can do worse.
I'm with Illumina on all of these. However, Bayonetta and Eternal Sonata are kind of at opposite ends of the spectrum - I know a few guys that wouldn't play Eternal Sonata because it was 'fruity' and Bayonetta is pretty much shamelessly pandering to a male audience. that said, both are incredible games.
Infinite Undiscovery isn't great as far as SE titles go, but it's still a good game. It plays a bit like XI and XII, and combat is fun.
Of these titles, I think Star Ocean, Tales of Vesperia, and Eternal Sonata are best storyline-wise. Magna Carta 2 is also exceptional, and it's gameplay is fun as well.
if you like fighting games, I was totally addicted to Soul Calibur 4 for a while. It's not the best in the series, but it's fun, especially when playing for shots.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope was terrible, wouldn't recommend that at all.
i HATED the last hope, i need to go pick up and finish Eternal Sonata
why did you guys hate the last hope? i thought it was pretty good, at least for the crap they've been giving us rpg fans as of late. i stopped holding them up to the standards of the rpgs of around 2000 long ago.
I don't think it's so much a matter of RPGs being so different compared to then as the rest of us just growing out of some things while looking back to the good ol' days with fondness. I haven't played a game in a while where I just want to gouge my eyes out due to the plot, but how it plays can be another issue. Loading times still bug me.
hmm, maybe you're right. i have gone back and played a number of old psx games and enjoyed them just as much, although that may be nostalgia. i wonder if it's not also that we've seen the same thing so many times by now, though - pretty girl dying, finding out the main character is a clone of someone, sappy romance, god taking over the world, blah blah. it was all great the first 15 times, but after a while it's just beating a dead horse. going back to play the old games i know i'm all 'well this wasn't so cliche at the time', but i guess there just aren't all that many plot elements to throw together for new games!
Perhaps my biggest ennui with the genre is playing kids that turn around and pound the crap out of adults. It might've been cool when I was a teenager, but now it's like, "Gee, thanks for making older people look dumb/weak/whatever."
I'm still unhappy with most RPGs showing up on handhelds these days, though. I've had a hard time getting into WRPGs, too.
ooh i'm unhappy with the handheld thing, too. i just got a new psp because my old one died, i think it came with cables to connect it to a tv - that should make things a bit better. i don't really like wrpgs, either. i used to be all about my 360 because there were more rpgs for it, but it seems ps3 is taking over there in the past few months (atelier rorona, trinity universe, hyperdimension neptunia, ar tonelico 3).
and i totally agree about the kids thing - they always make me feel old! i much prefer games where they're at least in their 20s. i remember as i was getting older i'd always be upset if i was older than the protagonist of the game i was playing. i've come to terms with it now- at 26 i'm older than pretty much all of them. but i don't think i've ever met a 16 year old that was qualified to control their own hormones, let alone save the world. i wonder what the fascination with teenagers is, anyway? even when i was one myself i thought teenagers were annoying.
Hey again, so last time i bought darksiders and assassins creed 2 and liked those very much and i'm looking to buy some more 360 games...
I'll probably end up purchasing two again and have narrowed my list down to these five games but can't make up my mind so some input would be awesome!
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Lost Odyssey
Tales of Vesperia
Bayonetta
Mass Effect 2
Bayonetta > everything else. Haven't played DE:HR myself but everyone I've seen talk about it loves it, no idea on the others.
