So basically I'm gonna need four competent friends to form a team with to really compete online?

    Welp, I'm screwed )=

Regardless, the game sounds fantastic. I just hope the single player isn't as much of an afterthought as they're making it seem to be. AC's single player has always been the real meat of the game (at least outside of JP) and needs to maintain it's epicness imo.

I'm worried the "commander role" or whatever will be boring as fuck. At best, I'm envisioning it as having a satellite map of the area, from there it's filled with various blips of friends and foes that could possibly be jammed by in-game means. You might be able to zoom in on a quadrant or take the perspective of one of your allies, but in the MP environment, it's more than likely you'll have people who ignore what you request or insist they know better. Now, if you're given the means to remotely lock out (certain) weapon use or even hijack control of another player's AC, maybe... but then that just kind of shifts the issue to incompetent leaders ruining a possibly good fight.

Eh, I love spectate modes in games, so even if its a glorified spectate, I'm down.

I watched the trailer in Youtube and most of the comments are bad ones. Do they really like the old armored core style compare to the high speed ones (AC4 and AC4A) and even some of them seems never play AC games before? And what's up with the Michael Bay comment on this game lol?

I really like AC4 and AC4A though since its all high speed battle action and fighting online with the JPs was really good experience. The AC4 (and AC4A) control scheme was fine to me too since I have no problem since the first day I tried the game. Anyway, I can't wait to play this game next year! :D

Frankly, the only reason I'd call the old AC games "slow" was because of the hardware. Conceptually, they probably had better/longer/harder missions that weren't just throw a giant mech at you or a small army of ACs. Granted, those happened from time to time, too.

The "V" In Armored Core V Could Stand For "Over 500 Parts" Or "Online Victory"

Armored Core V, producer Toshifumi Nabeshima explained while presenting his title, has over 500 parts for players to use.

From Software also revamped online play by having players fight over virtual territory. Everyone (unless you disconnect your console) is linked to an online server where the territory wars continue. Using this system, other players can create missions for their team to complete. While you’re attacking you’ll also have to defend acquired land with traps such as cannons and bombs. Armored Core V is designed so players will have to communicate with others and share their successes as well as failures. As long as there is a community of people that play Armored Core V, the game will have life, Nabeshima mused.

Maybe not wholly worthy of a bump, but two new pics of a tank AC with massive cannon-arms on the official site.

    King of Cannons, etc.

Armored Core V Demo Play Hits Next Week
Armored Core V is going on demo soon -- only you won't be able to play it.

From Software will be holding a live dev kit demo play session for the game at an event in Akihabara next week. Producer Toshifumi Nabeshima and the development staff will play the game before spectators.

To attend, head to the Belle Salle event space in Akihabara on March 12 from 16:00 to 18:00. Admission is free, and attendees will walk away with an Armored Core V original sticker as a gift.

This demo session is actually part of Enterbrain's 10th anniversary "eb! Festa 2011 event," which will be held at Belle Salle on 3/12 and 3/13. You'll find further details on eb! Festa event here.

Can't attend? You'll still be able to see the ACV footage at http://www.famitsu.com/live/acv as part of a Midnight Live 360 broadcast. This also air on the 12th as well.
At least there will be videos up on youtube then.

Missions In Armored Core V Can Take Up To An Hour
Prepare yourself for a long battle before you start Armored Core V. This week’s issue of Famitsu notes story missions can take between 20 minutes to an hour to complete. In the middle of missions, players can capture Garage Points where you can reload and repair your mech. All missions in Armored Core V can be played online with cooperative play.

As mentioned earlier, Armored Core V has players fight over territory. While everyone is on a team, you can switch temporarily sides as a mercenary. If your team needs extra firepower mercenaries can be hired for a price. A screen that shows a player’s user ID, rank, and mech type (sniper, defensive, etc.) lets teams pick a mech to fill a void in their forces.

For players who want a quick mecha fix, From Software created order missions with simple tasks to complete. Armored Core V has over seventy of these to play

From Software plan to release Armored Core V on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this year in Japan. Namco Bandai will release the title overseas early next year.

News: Armored Core V Mercenary System
In the latest edition of covered Famitsu, Armored Core V’s new Mercenary System has been partially outlined. In that teams lacking in members can pay other players to help build up their ranks. No word on how the pricing works as yet, but the whole soldier of fortune vibe does chime in with series’ history very nicely (as that’s effectively what Ravens were anyway). Team members can also moonlight as mercenaries too apparently.
Separately, it’s been also revealed that the story mode will be much more substantial than previous games. As many of the core game missions will be around 20 to 60 minutes in length, as well as featuring multiple dramatic cutscenes. These will be playable via online co-op too. In addition there will also be shorter “order” missions available, that sound more akin to a beefed up arena but with a mission based context. The latter total up to around 70 missions in all.
Finally, there’s also a new Dengeki Online interview with the game’s and series’ producer Toshifumi Nabeshima. We’ll try and condense the salient points over the next few days.

Sounds more and more like Border Break each day or any other team based mech game I played while I was in Akiba last week. With that said, DO.FUCKING.WANT.

Yeah, this shit just officially made it onto my must buy list. Haven't really enjoyed an AC game in the current gen, but hot damn at the way this is shaping up.
