I just don't know what they're going to do about the framerate. This kind of a game is just to... extensive to run smoothly on the inferior and obsolete PS3. You can't strain blood out of a rock. I know what I'm getting into with the game, but that doesn't mean I don't want it. Gimmie gimmie, but at the same time, I really wish something like this would come out on PC.

I played a lot of online in AC:4A and it really bogged down on some of the larger maps (Spirit of Motherwill comes to mind). This game looks to be even more team-centric, but we'll see. I absolutely love the ambition of this game, though. I hope it works out and sells well.

Date Set for Armored Core V
From Software has set a new final release date for Armored Core V. The PS3 and Xbox 360 sequel are now due for release on January 26, 2012, priced ¥7,800.

This is a "new" final date because the game was previously announced for release on October 20. Last month, From Software announced a delay to January to brush up the product based off feedback from beta testers.

The release date announcement was made at the "From Software Game Festa 2011" event, a fan demo event which was held on Sunday at Hotel The Manhattan near the Tokyo Game Show event space. Visit Impress Watch for pics from the event.

In other From Software and Armored Core news, From announced at the Game Festa event the formation of its very own sound label, "From Sound Records." The first album from this label is Armored Core Reprises, a set of 15 tracks from past Armored Core games, including 3 from ACV. The music is being selected by FreQuency, a band formed by From's sound team. Look for the soundtrack on iTunes and CD (exclusively through Amazon) in late November.

Amored Core V set for a March release
Namco Bandai and From Software have settled on a release date for Armored Core V. In the United States, the big day is March 20; in Europe, the game hits shelves on March 23.

As someone who has always valued developers' efforts to make multiplayer a full-on war, not merely a series of unrelated battles, the persistent online mode and focus on teamwork sounds intriguing.

Bu pre-ordering Armored Core V at GameStop, you'll get the "Heavy Assault Pack," which "will help give players a competitive advantage on day one" with extra weapons and parts. Uh, yeah. Truth be told, I'm far more curious about the skeleton and ninja downloadable content.

Day 1 purchase, even though I don't know how they're going to pull it off on the PS3 engine without it either chugging along or looking like crap.

It's probably been buried in an interview in the past, but I assume PS3 and 360 are not going to be compatible? As in, a friend on the PS3 will not be able to play with me on a 360? I assume like most games these days that's a no.

Wonderful. My predictions came true, as always. This is why I hate consoles. The inferior tech always stunts a perfectly and potentially good game. Get the developers outside of Japan so they'll actually make a PC release and watch the franchise soar. Its essentially a fast-paced Mechwarrior - one that is permanently online - and an idea that just begs to be made for PC.

But whatever. We saw this coming.

I don't compute. You're saying that prioritizing AC for PC wouldn't increase sales? I don't think the franchise has to be permanently relegated to Basement-niche forever.

I agree the game would run a lot better if it were made exclusively for a single platform. A lot of problems arise when porting games to different platforms, sometimes they can manage, but other times they can't. I don't think AC will be more popular on the PC, and I don't think it's basement niche any more. The earlier games for sure, but the newer ones have made great strides with their control scheme to be more friendly and inviting.

I say basement niche because of how difficult it is to really find online players for the newer games. Take AC:4A, for example. On PS3 at least, 9/10 times you're playing with nothing but a small handful of JP. With the new direction of the franchise heading towards pure online play, PC just seems like the smartest option for easy integration to online (save for perhaps Xbox live, but then we're running into the framerate issue again).

I love me some AC, and I especially loved AC:4A and its online, but focusing on a single platform would help the franchise at least stabilize the framerate. Graphics have never been the issue, but you can't have a laggy online experience because of the actual game itself.

I don't think limiting platforms is a good way to find new players lol. If anything, multi-platform does nothing but increase the amount of players that will play the game. Whether they're interested in it at the end of the day has nothing to do with what platform the game is on but whether they find the game fun and engaging.

Adding a PC version would do nothing but help, but limiting it to PC would only hurt. Not saying I wouldn't play AC on the PC, because I fucking would in a heart beat. But limiting platforms only makes things more niche and hard to access, which isn't good for a series like AC.

I wouldn't mind retaining the series on consoles if the core game were developed on the PC first, then ported to the consoles. There's nothing worse than a game being designed for a console, then being ported backwards to the clearly superior system. My biggest reason for wanting PC expansion to take place from a non-JP company is that, for all of their talent on consoles, JPs have no fucking clue what to do on a PC when it comes to games.

Strange, I thought the earlier AC games were easier to control than the recent ones, or at least some point after 3.whateveryouwannacallthesideentries.

That's probably because flight combat wasn't as predominant in the early ones. I mean, in the first three, the main "speedy" movement was boost hopping back and forth, which kinda looked like ice skating. Now you're essentially airborne for the entire time, and if you aren't, you're probably getting fucked up in the shoulder by someone who is constantly out of sight.

Nah, I favored speedy mechs, and in the games where you could Human Plus it up, I did that and could practically fly, too. For me, it just seemed like the control scheme started slipping when they deviated from the default of the earlier games and started adding stuff like dumping equipment. Even when manually tweaking controls, just couldn't quite get it the same.
