I play the Zodiac Job System version and she is far from useless, in fact... she makes one of the best mages.
I use her as my white mage in my 122333 challenge.
Another reason she is useful is that for this challenge she is one of the Lv3 characters (the minimum possible level you can get her at when you get her in your party on the leviathan) so her stats are 'slightly' higher than some of the others.
She kicks plenty of ass with Holy and she has a shitton of MP compared to everyone except Ashe who is pretty close on my save.

Zodiac Job System is the international version of FFXII, it completely reworks the license board system and creates job classes (once you choose a job for someone, they are locked into it) It's a pretty nice change of pace.

In other words, the Firefly accessory allows me to kill things without gaining EXP.
