OP wants to be a pilot, not a meat shield. Navy or Chair Force is the way to go.

I have been out of the Air Force for almost 2 years now so something could have changed. However he said he wants to be a pilot, in the Air Force they have their pick for pilots and it is very very competitive. When I was in they would do vision correcting, but you were disqualified from pilot even with it. In the army I know they let chopper pilots have lasik, not sure how it works in navy or what-not. In the USAF if you want to be flying something that isn't a bus you better have had some flying lessons before you signed up, have perfect sight, extremely smart and a fast learn, know how to give great head and suck up ect. ect.

Infact, I knew more officers who wanted to be pilots and were given secretary or mechanic jobs instead. You have to be close to top of your class and expect the whole class to be very above average intelligence competing for the same thing you are.

The Navy does vision correcting. Not sure if they want pilots with that, I can check from here. The Academy is a great place to get info, heh.

I'm n the AF just re-uped last March, so @7 years almost now. Good luck, you can fly all types of stuff but being a fighter is tough. Gonna need atleast a 4year degree, great shape physically, highest marks through school, etc.

Im not sure entirely but here in the UK there are certain restrictions on becoming a Pilot.

    • You need 18-20/20 Vision which is being able to see Letters from 20ft away. Which means Glasses = No go

    • There is a Weight requirement.

    • You cant be over the Height Limit which is like 6"2, ive seen people come in that are around that but it all depends on your Kneecap to ass Length.
This is because some Jets like the Tornado are designed for small People and when you Eject you have a chance of cutting off your legs if you are over the Recommended Height.

    • There is also a certain Arm Length which is needed, im not sure what that is.

You need to be physically fit of course and need a good knowledge of Mental Arithmetic/Graphs/Fractions.
Im just wondering if the USAF will have the same requirements roughly? The RAF fly American Jets as well as European.

In the USAF pilots must be at least 5 feet 4 inches tall, but no more than 6 feet 5 inches tall, so most people meet the height requirements.

Emailed friend and aside from the GPA and academics you need to have no allergies (including hay fever) this will disqualify you. Have to pass tests on a G-force machine which you probably have not been tested on before.

For strength requirements you need to "your body weight multiplied by .35 for arm curls, .8 for bench press, .7 for lat pulls, 1.6 for leg press and .5 for leg curls" be able to do at minimum that.

It's kind of suprising to me that the requirements for the AF are so high. I know a pilot in the MC, and I know for a fact that their requirements aren't that high. His degree is actually in, no shit, golf course maintainence, and they made him a chopper pilot.

I have a couple of friends that I met through WoW that are in the Air Force, they all work on planes though. As it's been said, the requirements to even become a pilot are quite high(only 1 of them was even close to being eligible) and even then the list to get in is pretty daunting. The one guy whose close apparently signed on for a long time so that he'd have time to go up in rank I believe and have a better shot at getting in.

If you're intent on flying you're prolly better off joining the Navy or just serving in the Chair Force and then getting your pilots license afterwards. I was considering the Navy at one point for the sole reason that if you sign up at X position, they don't dick you around too much like the army and suddenly put you in Y position.
