Of course it can be be done. Although mathematically speaking (no pun) your buddy's chances are very, very low.

You really just need to get her out of the academic setting. I've had professors go out drinking with me before, so have your friend take his time, set things up by visiting during office ours to just chat, and then invite her out for a happy hour or something.

I'm a PhD student who will in a year be teaching classes. I think your best bet is to drop the class and establish a relationship outside of the classroom. I'm married, but if I wasn't, I don't think I'd nail an undergrad. Just too much that could go wrong. Age difference can be pretty significant between a teacher and an undergrad (I'm 27, undergrads can be 18-19), but doesn't have to be. Hit that shit.
