    Yep.

Poor countries don't have the resources for buildings that are earthquake-proof. Most people are only concerned with a shelter that protects them from rain, etc.

Even one of their officials told a news network that they weren't expecting an earthquake. Hello? Your country is right beside an active fault line.

Why doesn't the lazy Dominican Republic get off their asses and aid Haiti??? You're all lucky the earthquake's strong tremors didn't rupture past 15 miles along the fault line which passes through the entire island of Hispanola. A 7.0 Earthquake like this usually has the strong tremors rupture for about hundreds of miles.

You all need to get some God in your lives, and stop disrespecting the people who suffer, it's not their faults that they live in poverty. This is a nation that has suffered many natural disasters one after the other. They suffered 4 hurricanes in the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season, and recently paid off a big debt to the US for helping them recover from that. Now they'll be in more debt because of this catastrophic event.

I say, why post negative shit in a thread when you can show sympathy you inconsiderate fucks? Do you even realize that an Earthquake can happen ANYWHERE on Earth and are pretty much unpredictable??? Most Caribbean Islands aren't prepared for earthquakes (they don't have the equipment to keep constant measure of seismic activity like places such as Indonesia and California etc). Please show some respect people and pray for them, don't throw a bunch of shit when they are already going through deep pools of trouble.

This is a nation where people who live outside of the capital, eat mud pies. There's not much trees in Haiti or shrub. Rockslides probably happened and we won't know til daylight, to what extent the damage really is.

P.S: Fuck this mother earth/ mother nature bullshit. It can be metaphorical in some way, but the Earth did not create us, the Earth is not our mother, GOD is, we were created in the image and likeness of him, WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN. I suggest you all pray for the Haitians and pray that what happened there doesn't happen where you live, because Earthquakes are probably the most unpredictable and damaging natural disasters. PEACE, ONE LOVE!

I was trying so damn hard not to make light of this tragedy, but then I imagined Queen's Don't Stop Me Now playing while looking at this picture.

Perhaps the poor living conditions of Haiti can be improved now the whole world has its eyes on it.

Wyclef Jean's plea for urgent earthquake relief in Haiti: "We must act now"

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and the people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said on his Christian Broadcast Network. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you, if you get us free from the French.' True story."

Pat Robertson steps down from CBN

So the devil agreed, and the Haitians revolted and kicked the French out, the host of The 700 Club and founder of CBN went on, adding: "But ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other."

What amazes me is how few disasters of this magnitude happen to wealthier countries- it's almost as if misery attracts misery.
disasters happen in fair proportion across the world, the difference is not in their occurence but in the infrastructure that minimizes the impact and helps speed along the recovery, and don't forget the role that population density plays. the Indian Ocean tsunami could have hit the coast of California and there wouldn't have been a fraction as many dead (though you could argue that the economic impact might have been higher)

Not-so-intelligent individuals relating disasters like this to religion come out after every single natural disaster. Its not even interesting anymore.

AT&T and Verizon both have lines open to donate.

Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10. The donation will be added to your next bill.

Why would I waste my money? The most of it will probably been taken by corrupt politics there anyway. There are are people with problems everywhere. Even in your own country. Isn't that crazy? People usually just walk by them, but when some disaster hits, or kids from another country are starving people are happy to donate. Who cares! We've got our own shit going on. Think they would lift a finger if something like that were to happen to the US? Fuck no. Everyone would probably be dancing in the streets. Me? Not donating a penny to this. Yeah yeah, I'm a terrible human being, whatever. /yawn.

Not terrible. It's true that, unless stated, most money you donate is given to the company itself to cover "expenses" like the people handling it, etc. That's why I generally NEVER donate actual money to these things or even local charities. If they need canned goods, physical labor help, and things like that it's different because you are directly contributing and 100% of your contribution is used.

As for helping your own country before others, agreed also. This shit happens all the time. Yes it sucks. Yes it's horribly sad and I feel so angry/sad/helpless sometimes watching shit on TV but we have our own problems here too. It's sorta like going to China/Africa/Etc. to adopt a child. Do those people have any clue how many children need adoption in their own country?

Terrible human being, what he said, yah.. but shit's true.

Eh, I'm not one to throw money at a problem, but if your only reasoning for inaction is that it won't make a difference because a lot of people have problems...thats a pretty terrible attitude to have. One can't go through life making everyone else's problems your own all the time, but there is nothing wrong with doing what you can. The world is made up of individuals, you are using the same logic that your vote doesn't really matter because you are one of 300 million.

I'm hardly some peace loving hippy, but jesus christ, some of the stuff in this thread made me cringe pretty bad. I'm not religious, but that doesn't mean integrity goes out the damn window.
