If you have a martial gun and a corsair's/+1, you're good. Martial is the best for merit/anything you can melee/ws with decent success. For everything else, all of your dmg will be from QD, hence Corsair's. Also, expect somewhere in the 1-2 mil range for a HQ. They aren't exactly common.
You may also want to consider buying a peacemaker for times where you aren't ws'ing, 4 agi is quite good for light/dark shot. May or not be worth the price, however.
I managed to get Corsair's Gun +1 out of a bazaar for 1.5m several months ago, and it's the only one I've ever seen (equipped or for sale, and I scour bazaars for Alexandrite regularly). You might even have to try to get one crafted, which could suck. Also, someone managed to get a +2 MAB augment on their NQ, and I calculated that it was better than my unaugmented HQ. So, your choice as to how you'd like to flush your gil!
You also might want that Peacemaker if you think you'll find yourself in a situation that requires you to pull. I don't put myself in those situations, so my never-used-once Peacemaker has been on loan to someone for like a year >.>
Martial is definitely where you want to be for anything that involves expending bullets.
What would be the best possible Catastrophe setup for merit/dynamis/einherjar mobs? (Excluding AV items)
This has been asked like 12 times. The following thread is pretty good:

I use this:

(Swordbelt +1 has STR +1 augment)
Some like a mix and match set with Black / Onyx pieces. There is no absolute conclusion and it would depend on your buffs. If you have something like 11 Chaos, 2x Min, etc.; a set focusing on STR with incidental benefit to Cata's mods may be best. Otherwise any heavy ATK build is pretty good.
For COR don't bother with peacemaker for pulling unless you're really anal about AGI for sleep shot (and isn't there a better +AGI gun?). You can just pull with the free mamoolbane and swap in a gun/bullet for light shot.
It's the best gun for agi, but there is Veuglaire. How good macc is compared to AGI I'm not sure, but it's something to consider. In fact, how does this gun compare to Corsair's+1?
Wow, that's a pretty good gun. Too lazy to do the math on damage quick draws and I'm confident someone else will (and my guess it that corsair's+1 will win even without extremely good MAB gear; the more MAB you have the less good Veug becomes relatively). However, it's bullshit not to assume AGI doesn't follow the same M.ACC rules as other stats unless proven otherwise. This means that 1 AGI is at most 1 M.ACC and otherwise .5 M.ACC and therefore 5 MACC will always be equal to or better than 5 AGI. Veug's free, get it.
How well does the Morrigan's Robe stack up on physical Blu spells when compared to the Magus Jubbah, its HQ, and the Mirage Jubbah?
How does Skadi's Curie stack up to osode on rng tp? Osode obviously wins on ws.
If you compare it to the other QD guns, it's going to come up short on damage, but obviously better on acc if you believe magic acc helps. As far as I understand it, the +5 "Magic Attack" is different from "Magic Attack Bonus", so it would be a separate straight damage % increase. I don't have the gun, so I can't test to confirm this.

Because it's apparently not MaB and something different, your MaB obviously wouldn't matter (as you mentioned and is shown here, as MaB rises, its value in relation to base damage decreases).
Edit - I should note that even if I'm wrong and it is the same as MaB, that first Veuglaire figure goes from 300 -> 297, and the second stays the same, 242. So the initial analysis remains the same compared to the other guns; the only difference is that it would get slightly worse with more MaB like that 300 -> 297 e.g.
Edit II - added NQ Corsair's, just because.
Mekki Shakki vs Martial Staff for 100TP Full Swing?
Will 14D and 5 STR outweigh the TP bonus, which is huge for Full Swing?
Power staff with STR+ procs from building up to 100tp!
My understanding was Veuglaire's magic attack was like BLU's trait and inferior to MAB as far as straight damage. It would be more accurate, but seems more like inventory-1.
Also BSTs can easily dispatch of the feelers or whatever spawns for Rostrum Pumps in case you wanted to try with more people.
I did the math when it came out. Even at a sad +8 MAB in other gear, NQ Corsair's is better for damage (I didn't calculate any lower). If you're lacking in m.acc/merits and have problems landing shots, you might consider it.
Edit: nvm, this was assuming it was 5 MAB, and not whatever weird-ass thing it is. I don't need it, so I'm not bothering.
Convergence's MATK is superior for breaths (since MAB does nothing for those) but inferior for anything else since it only affects the target-invariant term (untrue at sufficiently high MAB but I doubt we're hitting that value, cba to math it). Quick Draw has no such term so it would affect the entire damage calculation and thus 5 MATK should be a straight 5% bonus, ie superior to 5 MAB unless you previously had 0 MAB.
