Very quick question about DVI cables
After years of being lazy about basic component upgrades, I've decided to finally grab myself a DVI cable for my computer. I'm running an ATI Radeon HD5770 on my desktop, and have an LG Flatron W1953T monitor with both DVI and AVG input. As is, I've been using a DVI-VGA adapter to connect the two via an older AVG cord.
I was just wondering what the primary difference in functionality was between 24AWG cords and 28AWG cords. I know AWG just relates to the diameter of the wire, however I'm not sure how that diameter affects the actual performance and lifetime/durability of the cord. They seem to be nearly identical in price, so any suggestions as to which I should grab?

I guess I should've been a bit clearer. I am buying a DVI cord. There are two different types of DVI cords for sale, 24AWG (American Wire Gauge, a measure of their width), and 28 AWG. I'm just curious if there is any functional difference in the two so that I know I'm buying the right DVI cord for my needs.

The heavier gauges are supposed to help if the cable is longer and/or you're trying to push very high resolutions. At exactly what point marketing takes over I dunno. Most any cabling has limitations on length before needing a repeater/booster/whatever.
For normal desktop use with maybe a 6-foot cable it really shouldn't matter - I've seen plenty of cheap cables included with Dell monitors n' the like and never had a problem with 'em. If you were running it from the front of a room to a projector in the back, then it may be more of a concern.

It's largely academic. The 28 gauge has higher resistance so can't be used in longer distances, but unless we're talking like 50' it's not going to matter a lot.
