I think that the Jets will have to abandon the blitz within the first half. For all we laugh at Norv as a head coach, the dude is an offensive genius. If they want to win this game, I think it's going to be by dropping back and forcing turnovers...otherwise, they are going to have some very very long fields to drive between the way the chargers move the ball and the way Scifres punts.
I don't think they can afford to drop back and let Rivers pick his way through zone coverages. The Jets 4 man rush is pretty shitty. I read that the Jets blitzed 57% of the time, by far the most in the NFL. I don't think they should abandon that. And like I said, they can't afford to fall behind and make Sanchez throw the ball downfield. He's at his best when he's running play actions and bootlegs, like he was against Cincy.
jets win 24-13
So they have a choice of Rivers eating up their blitz or Rivers eating up their zone. He ate up Philly's blitz and threw for about 450 yards against Baltimore, so...it's just a bad situation all around.
Also, cue Brady pic of "only scoring 17 points"...The Chargers are the only team in the NFL to score at least 20 points in every game this season. I don't think that's going to change.
Rivers shreds blitzes. He's just got too many weapons to play with. Blitz? Ok, Gates in the flat, Floyd on a slant, Sproles on the screen.
He doesn't need to sit back and pick through coverages. He doesn't do that to begin with. He throws the g'damn ball into these crazy tiny windows even into double/triple coverage and gets the completions. The combination of his accuracy and the skill of his receivers is pretty intense.
Edit: Don't forget that the pure size of SD's WRs creates some serious mismatches as well. It's one of the keys to their success. Jets don't have an answer for that. 1 man can't cover the entire secondary.
Just look at all the Jets wins. All against teams that only had 1 real weapon in the passing game. Seriously.
The Pats only had one real weapon? Also they only gave up 1 (I think?) offensive touchdown to the Saints but Sanchize shit the bed that game. I'm not trying to dickride the Jets but I think people are underrating their defense and the effectiveness of their blitz packages. I saw the Giants get a lot of pressure on Rivers, which was effective, then dropped back on the last drive of the game and he picked them apart. lolgiants I know, but still. Not saying it'll be easy, or that there's even a good chance that the Jets will win, but if their defense plays well it's not such a long shot.
The Jets/Chargers game will be the biggest blowout. The Jets will get demolished this weekend.
Ray Rice will keep the first half interesting off screens, but Manning blows up in the 3rd.
The NFC doesn't really matter, but I want the Vikings to win; AP needs to step it up.
I suppose that the Saints dont count because we lost, even though there was only a single offensive TD in the game(which was in garbage time)? Or the Colts who were held to 9 points in the first half before starters were pulled?
You're right, shutting down the two best offenses in the league is meaningless because of how the games ended. Seriously.
Heh. My parents are in town so I'm not on much lately, and my trolling isn't sophisticated enough to counter-troll obvious trolls on this subject.
Aaron Rodgers' stats already have everyone trapped in a mad-vortex anyway, so my work here is done.
Did I mention he has the best QB Rating of all time?
lol. I thought you might say that...I was hoping you wouldn't, but you did.
Welker is out (he didn't play the first game vs the Jets), Jets win. Welker is in, Jets lose. I said all the games they won <-
I'm not underrating their defense. It's just simply a great match up for SD. The Jets were also great at shutting down down the run, which forced teams that only had 1 big passing weapon into a one dimensional passing game. Cake for the defense.
SD is a different kind of monster. They don't need to run. In fact, their idea of "running," is screen passes, which is perfect for the defense they're facing. Hell, they were near the bottom of the league on the ground iirc.
Seriously dude, I had the Jets and Ravens D in my money league this year. I know how fucking impressive they are. But I also had Rivers for my QB and know how impressive SD's offense is stacked on top of a great match up for them.
Either way, I hope it'll be a great game. I'd be pleasantly surprised of the Jets won since I'm a neutral on this on.
Gonna go ahead and call it..
Vikings to win this fucking Super Bowl
Nah, I was about to edit something stupid I wrote above, but that was a great game for their defense. Their best game of the season really.
It still validates my argument though. NO has to rush to get productive in the air (don't forget they were 6th in the league in rushing yrds/game). SD doesn't. Once they got NO's ground game under control, they dominated that game.
NO is ranked #1 in pts with 4th in passing, 6th on the ground. SD is ranked 4th in pts with 5th in passing and lol31st on the ground.
Get the homer out and just look at the match up. Edit: (<--that's@ Celeras. You also fucking fail for going back to edit your dipshit comment about the colts after I drilled you on it. The Colts don't have one of greatest offenses, they have the greatest QB. A LOT of their games were close this season. Watch some fucking football sometime.)
7 of their games were decided by less than 5 pts and you're acting like they're omgbbq on offense. Their stats got a boost from the blowouts. 4x they were held to 20 or less pts. That never happened to SD this season.
Do you even watch football?
Edit: Well, SD was held to -20- once, but you get my point. SD finishes drives. They do average more pts per game than the Colts I hope you realize.
lol
