Urge to play more XI to hype myself for XIV.

I have a huge craving to play some XI in hopes that it will get me even more excited than I already am for XIV. However I would have to start completely new, and I dunno if I'd really enjoy myself not having the same connections I did with my old friends. I don't even think most of the people I used to play with regularly play anymore.

Just curious if there's any opinions on the matter, if you think I'd actually enjoy myself. Or if it would just be a waste of time. I remember it was pretty easy to make friends back in the beginning of time. I just don't know what i's like nowadays. If everyone's just in their little clicks, and unless you already had friends, you'll just get thrown into some immature newbie linkshell.

I just don't want to get frustrated after the first week and quit immediately. Ending up just being a waste of time and money. I don't expect it to feel new again, but like in WoW it always feels awkward making good friends it seems now. It's always early in the MMO's life that it just seems really easy to make friends.

Why not start over and come play with us? We have *quite* a few rerolls with PLs to match.

if you're lucky, and its pretty likely too, FFIX should be hitting the PSN store some time later this year, FFVII came last June and VIII just last month. It should come before FFXIV hits (maybe not the beta tho), so you can replay that without digging out a copy of FF9 or pirating.. and play it on the PSP or in super-unglorious HD screen settings.

FF8 surprisingly looks kinda bearable even on a 32" TV, but it was also the prettiest of the 3 PS FFs...

Try starting a free trial account. You get 14 days of play per account and they can be expanded on by using the FFXI Ultimate Collection for an extra 30 days free. With the release of FFXI on Steam (which was on sale for $11 during the holidays but is now back to $19.99) I think anyone wanting to play should.

If you haven't experienced any of the newer content like Level Sync and the Field Manual I would really recommend creating a trial account and giving those a try. It's a lot of fun.
