And vacation trailer had over 8 times as many likes as dislikes... so I stick with it was actually better. And in fact if I saw that trailer today without knowing just how bad the movie ended up being it would actually make me consider watching the movie because A) the trailer was better. B) there was no idiotic political agenda

I don't doubt for a second that there's people who dislike the movie based on it being all-female alone, and posting pictures of #girlpower just fuels those fires more. There's countless media sites talking about how all of the backlash is generated from sexists, and it makes ignoring the actual reasons it would be critiqued easily dismissed by broad strokes of "but muh MRAs."

Hell, I brought up a couple of reasons why Ghostbusters might have a different feeling to people as opposed to Vacation or Gem or Karate Kid, and I got dismissed in the same function. It's not because we associate the Ghostbusters with the iconic personalities and actors that portrayed them, it's because women. It's not that people don't want yet another rebooted franchise because those fare so well in terms of quality, it's because of women. It's not that the trailers just recycle gags from the first movie, or that the characters themselves are all stereotypical female roles, it's because they're women.

It's dumb. The presented material is far from infallible, and it's not really any different than fanboying a franchise or something. Even if it looks like shit, fans will think it'll be great, only now it's in reverse, where anyone who thinks that it looks like shit is a troll, MRA or sexogynist.

Personally, I would have wanted a continuation (yes with girls is fine, I mentioned before I love McCarthy). I tend to think those are smarter choices because it means that the originals are still cannon to the series. I think the reboots that I've enjoyed are ones where I was never invested in at the beginning. Ex. I was never a big Star Trek person, and thoroughly enjoy the new films since I didn't care too much for the original shit.

I don't think anyone was expecting the original cast, especially considering one is dead and another has become the cranky old man who wants you off his lawn.

Fuck this shitpile. My disdain is not directed towards any of the cast. I simply refuse to acknowledge a new Ghostbusters without Murray, Ramis, Akroyd, and Hudson. Nope.

Again, it's not that Wiig and McCarthy can't act. It's more to do with what the casting means for the movie. Bridesmaids was funny, but that isn't Ghostbusters. Walter Mitty was dramatic, but that isn't Ghostbusters. If they're not careful it'll end up being a typecast movie where everyone is trying to play their role and the writing revolves around that.

Part of what made the originals charming were the chemistry between the actors and the sharp writing. It wasn't about getting laughs. The laughs came with the story and weren't forced.

There are people who hate the fact that the cast is female because they're female. Again, not here. I'm just saying that I have seen that around. Christ.

In all fairness, I doubt that much of the hate for the all female cast has to do with misogyny as much as it's just a major depart from the original.

Outcry like this always happens with any attempt to remake a classic, especially when they 're invent the wheel' in some way.

What's the context of Ghostbusters? It's a movie about a group of pals who fight ghosts and trap them. Nothing about the movie need include a specific adherence to a gender. Would you have preferred a remake where the new male cast played caricatures of the originals down to their little quirks? I'd suggest watching the A-Team.

As for the all female cast? It's marketing buzz. And it allows the new movie to be its own thing free of comparisons to the original 'busters. As it well should be. Will FemBusters be any good? Jury's out on that considering the hit/miss nature of remakes/reheats but talking about feminists is just offbase here.

Someone figured they could make a fuckton rebooting a beloved classic and tossed a genderbend on top of it for controversy's sake. Don't overthink it.

It's a movie nobody asked for staring people nobody likes made solely to cash in on a beloved franchise.

Legit question, and I'm not being an asshole or anything, but did you watch the original films back in the day? Just out of my own curiosity.

Deft nailed it pretty dead on. Nobody asked for this, and the only hype around the movie was when the four guys were possibly coming back together. That's what made Ghostbusters work in the first place. Akroyd, Ramis, Murray and (forget his name) really believed in the movie, and put their heart and soul into it. They are what made it special. You could tell in their acting they were really trying to sell it. And it worked. This is just a sad cash grab that's going to shove a beloved film franchise's name into the gutter in the name of potential profit. Plus, they're only going the 4 women angle to capitalize on the gender equality movement going on right now. It's kind of sad, really.

Nobody was asking for more Fox made X Men movies back in 2011 either and First Class was made purely to maintain movie rights. It's not like nothing good can ever come out of these circumstances.

Just write it in the script as passing of the torch. Make it incredibly cheesy too, have the two of them at Egon's grave at the anniversary of his passing and Venkman didnt show up, and because its at a graveyard, ghosts come out, etc etc.

No, posted last page, if this was the cast of Hot Tub Time Machine with these effects, same plot, and the same terrible delivery it'd be the same damn thing. A couple of the jokes would even make more sense if it were guys saying it, and still no.
