Y'all crazy if the haterade surrounding this movie isn't primarily because it's an all-female cast. Total Recall and Robocop got unnecessary remakes and the hate train wasn't nearly as intense and both those movies have yuuuuuuge followings. I pity the fool that thought he could recast Arnie and Michael Ironside.

Both movies subsequently released, no one gave a fuck because they were inferior films and life went on. What makes Ghostbusters different? We've seen so many beloved franchises churned back up to the surface and proceed to dry fart for a few weeks then return to obscurity that to say that the line must be drawn here is completely arbitrary.

Will our beloved childhoods be destroyed if Fembusters is shit? Nothing TMNT, Transformers, Battleship, DB: Evolution, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, Total Recall or Robocop haven't attempted recently. This movie has essentially become a lightning rod for stupid culture wars shit that has nothing to do with this being a good or bad film.

My bet is that it's just like Recall and Robocop. Unnecessary, doomed to be inferior from conception and overall harmless. I do await the backpatting of interweb prophets when it's lukewarm at the theatres.

Are the people making this argument actually watching the fucking trailers and listening to the songs? They're shit, get over it. Has nothing to do with the women other than that their deliveries of the content looks like shit(most likely shit writing). Honestly this remake is rubbing me the wrong way because of the bad trailers and jokes, but its eating at me because it started as something I wanted, a sequel with the old cast passing down the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters, something original and involving the people who made the franchise great (to me)... and instead we're getting another talentless unimaginative rip-off/reboot. Thats where my biggest disgust comes from.

I'm not naive to think there are 0 sexists among the crowd of people who hate this movie, but its getting more hate precisely because of the "Oh this is getting so much hate cause INTERNALIZED MISOGYNY AND PATRIARCHY" narrative people keep insisting on spinning.

And I will eat my goddamn words if this movie comes out and they pull a "Dredd" out of their ass and it turns out to be a kick ass movie surpassing the original, but I won't be holding my breath.

Star was did, and that's one of the biggest criticisms it got was that it was basically all 3 movies crammed into one. But it had good acting and the characters were pretty awesome. That and it did have some new stuff that made it enjoyable. That and their previews were cool. Kinda like the Rogue One previews look cool.

All those movies you mentioned got a ton of shit though. Usually proportional to how much they were promoted since they were all somewhere between meh and complete hot garbage so the more you spread the word the more people realized it. Dragon ball in particular was insanely horrible. Thing has a motherfucking 14% at rotten tomatos and 2.7 on imbd. And honestly that was probably inflated because IGN actually gave it a good review lol.

I don't recall anybody ever wanting another Total Recall or Robocop in the first place. But Ghostbusters has had people wanting a sequel for ages, but Bill Murray was always the hold-out. Harold Ramis dies, all expectations die, and suddenly you get this abomination announced, which Murray is all too willing to appear in.

For me, it has nothing to do with the cast of all women, but these particular women and director. Yes, they can make a funny movie, but it is a much different style of comedy than the originals.

I think this right here is where most of the rage comes from. A 3rd movie has been in talks for years but for some reason it always sank only to get revived some time later. Then Raims died and this movie was announced later. Then came the rumors of the living cast making cameos, rumors of them being forced, etc. etc.
