Errr, yea. I thought she was better than that.
So I'm at the dinner table last night when my stepdaughter is going on about wanting to see this movie with her friends (she's 11).
So I went: "Sure, but the movie is getting a lot of backlash..."
Wife interrupts: "Why? Because women are in the lead roles?"
Then I went on to explain the nature of remakes, and attachment people have to original movies (like how when stepdaughter was talking about she's only heard Chinese being spoken in "Karate Kid", and I was all like "wtf, Mr. Miyagi is Japanese" and she looked at me with this "wtf is Mr. Miyagi" face, and I quickly realized what she was talking about.
Sad day, that was.
The exact reason I don't want to go see this is because of the bullshit drama that surrounds it. The worst part is, they're doing it intentionally. I really think that marketing companies have found out that doing this sort of thing will, in the end, bring money into their pockets.
Remakes based on popular, deeply entrenched nostalgia fare almost always fall into "fuck this shit" from the loudest fans who see the new as an attempt to bury the old. Off the top of my head I want to say Doctor Who is an example of a reboot usurping the original run but that's TV and not film. It also helped that Doctor Who had a prolonged disappearance from pop culture and was never as popular in the US as it was in the UK during the classic era. Less nostalgia to mine.
Even with FFVII HD remake you hear the voices declaring that the beloved classic will be forever tarnished because ATB won't be making a comeback. People really don't like you mucking with their enshrined things, quality be damned.
Well, I did mention that most of the negative reactions appeared after the trailer came out, and explained to her (kid) that she shouldn't be dissuaded from watching any movie she wants to watch because of bad reviews or critiques. I mean, I loved Waterworld.
She'll watch the movie, and so will I (if I survived Malibu's Most Wanted, I can survive this if it turns out to be bad), but in a twist of events, wife has opted out.
I showed kid both songs, and she liked both. Wife disliked new version.
Then we sang the original theme, and I spoke in Slimer voice.
Doctor Who fucking stinks. Just needed to say it.
Go get in your fucking lame ass time machine.
Yes.
I should be happy, most of my components showed up for my new build.
However, I am hungover and have a lot of work to do.
No apologies about Doctor Who though, that has always been my stance.
But Waterworld was actually pretty awesome though

Shit, I don't remember that scene.
I always grunt my shit out. It asserts my dominance over the toilet.
