AIM / Webcam issues

So I'm attempting to get a good video session going with my girl on AIM for the first time, and we're both running into the same problem. We can hear one another but we cannot see each other (both of us see a black screen in the video box). I'm using AIM of some sort (I don't know what edition because it just made me update as my archaic old 6.0 finally became unsupported) on a Sony VAIO with built in webcam, using Windows Vista as my OS if any of that helps. I attempted google for a little, and it seems to be a tricky issue - using Webcams on AIM - with lots of problems, but none specific to OSs or anything. If anyone's had this problem, I'd greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Below the Task Manager you can see the black video screen.

Ignore the archaic start bar, as that only appeared for whatever reason after an automatic Windows Update last night.

I'm gonna assume aim doesn't like the installed sony software for whatever reason. Have you tried removing the sony software? if that doesn't work, honestly you can probably pickup a webcam for pretty cheap. Also, have you tried msn or some other chat client possibly?

Does the same thing happen in Skype?

We tried Skype and it worked wonderfully! Fuck AIM. Now I just need to find a good capping program hahaha
