Has to be an expansion announcenement. If it isn't they can kiss FFXI users good bye when FFXIV releases. An expansion announcement would at least make people 'feel' like there will be some effort put into FFXI in the foreseeable future instead of just 'promises' that they will. It doesn't even have to be much and say it will release at the end of the year or even at the beginning of next year. Just the announcement keep people from completely fleeing a sinking ship when FFXIV launches.

The only issue I see with an expansion is how hard it seems to be to find stores that carry new PS2 games. I know when I went into Best Buy I nearly missed WotG when it was released due to how much they downsized their PS2 isle for PS3/PSP games, and that was 3ish years ago back when the PS3 was still new and wasn't as big of a buy as it is now.

Guess that might work, I never looked how big an expansion on average is.

The WoTG DVD for Windows only had 353 megs of content on the disk. If their updater wasn't such a pile of garbage, it wouldn't be too bad to download an entire expansion.

I'm curious how much of a PS2 hard drive is taken up by FFXI and all expansions. I'm wondering when the PS2 is going to run out of room for new content, or simply melt down from the number of armor textures and whatnot.

I'm really hoping that they don't plan another expansion/mini-expansions so soon. They really need to stop plowing blindly ahead with new content and spend some time fixing issues with the game. It's hard to get excited about a new expansion knowing they'll drag it out for 2-3 years again.

I can't remember the size of the HDD, but I'm pretty sure it only takes up around 25% of the PS2's HDD at the most.

DLC would work, however if anyone is on dial up 300+ megs would be a nightmare.

EDIT: After checking online, the PS2 HDD is 40 Gigs and according to Windows the PC version is around 8 gigs, so the PS2 version is fairly close to that I'd assume. So assuming you're not using the HDD for anything else (Hello big assed memory card) SE could do do a lot more with XI content wise on the HDD.

The PS2 is bad, but nowhere near where it cant handle at least another 5-6GB worth of data in its current bundled HDD system.

Just loaded up the PS2 to check, looks like that's not a real issue yet. 24,448MB free, so like 24GB free still.

Well, iirc, isn't the 360 HD all funky shaped? The PS2 one is just a normal HD with something proprietary tacked on, pretty cheap to make.

And to be fair, while the PS2 was 40, at launch, the PS3's options were 20 and 60. Though you can upgrade the PS3 with any PC HD you have lying around, though the only real point is if you own EVERY PS3 game/DLC ever made, go nuts with the movie/TV downloads (which wasn't available at launch), or are a crazy linux user.

MS had to do that in order to allow their price of the system to stay under the PS3, one of the big selling points. when the X-box came out a 100GB hard drive was like 200+ lol.
a system that breaks most but has a equal price? that would not of gone over well at all. So cheaper price for a nice system, better games(at the time) made for a great selling point, all you had to deal with was taking some games off the HDD when you where done playing them.

SE: We are ending FFXI story within the next year but epic story will be epic!

The only fitting way to end FFXI on a high note is after you beat the final wotg mission after the story concludes a black screen pops up and just spills all the damn info about all the stuff we ever wanted to know about 11.

    TH has 1% effect!
Crafting effected by day of the week/moonphase!

    etc etc.

i wanna know where the fuck adventurers came from, in the opening sequence they always talk about how you've made a long journey to "nation" (bastok and sandy do i know, fuck windurst) so where the hell did you come from

    selbina?mhaura? that shit ain't a long journey

clearly after wotg Atomos closes the maws and the adventurers are trapped in the year 892 (or whatever) and only when the Zilart twins start fucking with the beastmen and making magicite does it open Atomos and spill forth the adventurers of years past who eventually do RoZ, CoP, ToAU, and then WoTG again just to get stuck in an eternal timeloop

cause after wotg Cait Sith, AVATER OF TIEM, puts us back to the beginning of the Crystal War to win it right, but then Atomos, AVATAR OF BEIN' A DICK, comes a long and fucks up everything, so Cait Sith has to send him BACK IN TIME, and Atomos then sends Cait Sith forward in time and this is not nearly as good a timeloop as FF1

FFXI is still a very successfull MMORPG with a lot of users, my guess knowing the company is it will be a marketing campaign for FFXIV and very little else. The special annoucement will be about FFXIV and the FFXI content will be garbage small lackluster updates, you know its true. The chances of a true full expansion pack for FFXI are about as high as them giving the deatils on how to kill AV.
