The special announcement is going to be that they're adding the following effect to mythic weapons:
20% chance that striking the opponent will result in an additional 20-50 TP return.
Yeah right.
If I had to guess it, perhaps they're announcing WotG's endgame event inside Walk of Echoes.
This was my reaction when I read this. We know some kind of endgame is coming, and that the WoTG storyline is...supposed to be coming to an end soon. My take on synergy/evolith was that it would be a base to be expanded on when whatever final endgame WoTG content comes out, so hoping for something related to that too.If I had to guess it, perhaps they're announcing WotG's endgame event inside Walk of Echoes.
Angers me how long it's taken for WoTG content to gradually be pushed out. When I go buy "an expansion," I expect it to be in a large part complete on release. Not just mainly copies of old zones and mobs, and a few quests at first. Not finished 2-3 years later, as a poorly hidden excuse to keep a playerbase at bay until the next big MMO title.
think someone mentioned this as a joke, but I bet the announcement is the actual way to defeat AV. that would be seriously disappointing, the thought of a new expansion... or even add-ons would make this game feel alive again.
The difference between EQ and FFXI is that EQ actually -releases- expansions about every year or so. WotG has been out for years and there has been absolutely no hard evidence or information about a new upcoming expansion.
I'm not saying it won't happen, its just that if it does, this is a shoddy way of going about it.
Some part of me simply thinks that SE will just keep drawing out small updates to the expansion for years, instead of releasing many expansions ala EQ.
So, is the reason why WOTG is going so slow because of XIV? Or am I missing something, idk.Originally Posted by Dengeki Interview

I'm sorry, all I saw was "foreigners foreigners foreigners foreigners foreigners foreigners foreigners foreigners foreigners."
I love a lot of what comes out of Japan, but the gaijin shit seriously has to go. Its as annoying as hearing "freedom" and "values" spouted over here constantly.
Back to FFXI, though, if they claim to have drawn inspiration from EQ, it really doesn't show very well. FFXI plays like a cross between FFX and dot/hack, with FFT's job system thrown in. Possibly the only thing FF took from EQ was the lust for grinding, but you've always had to grind in FF games (if you wanted max level), so that's no real thing.
its a defense mechanism. IGN attacked JRPGs. see the J? thats Japanese, and they are a very nationalistic group, so they're eager to defend anything that bears their country in any form..
that said, some of the complaints are sound. western games do lack subtlety, don't usually come with a zero-to-hero play schematic and often portray, or require that you take on the role of the antithesis of order.
really, the thing that annoys me about western (especially US) games is that they seem to love to breed chaos and disorder, which I find ironic coming from a country that values 'freedom', because afaik that original concept of freedom was meant to promote peace, not the opposite.
whatever the case, the games don't give you a sense of order, peace or tranquility. its more 'yea i'm a badass! whacha gonna do about it?'. In that sense, I think JRPGs do actually uphold public order, and sits better with non-confrontational and zen philosophies.
We must remember that games aren't JUST games. Even the very way they're designed reflects a part of us or our culture. In that sense, JRPGs are not necessarily 'flawed' by design, they are also a reflection of its developers (and by extension, a bit of their background/culture as well). As such, it really isn't a stretch for Japanese people to take it personally.
The foreigner word isn't that big a deal either. Its technically appropriate, and depending on which kanji was used may or may not carry the same connotations as the English word.
Back to FFXI, the only thing I see FFXI taking after EQ is its general MMORPG pay model. Square must probably have taken notice of the profits to be made under the MMORPG payment model, because it works as a massive income generation unit. Like, in the early days of MMORPGs, when people were still talking about EQ as the 'big one', there was considerable talk about MMORPGs and their economic functions, both to the developer and the players. I seem to recall one guy who wrote a book on MMORPGs or something, but then quit his day job to do that instead because RMT was paying better.
Anyway, the implications of the MMORPG genre and income model were too huge to miss out on, which is really why FFXI is here today. FFXI was a huge (fiscal) success, which is why XIV is coming.
I fully expect SE to support XI for many years to come. Its really more of a matter of how much new content they'll be willing to provide.
I feel negative connotations more often than not when I hear 'gaijin.' From my experiences, if the speaker wants to avoid negative connotations, they simply avoid using the word. I do agree it was IGN's bad on this one though.
The Last Verse! (need completion of wog, acp mke asa...)
Ever since the next-gen systems were released at the conventions like E3 etc. they've been saying video games will be more like movies and they have. Big budgets that never really fill expectations, Gears of War for example we accepted the ending cause of previous games such as Halo, then Gears of War 2 came out, another cliffhanger ending, wtf(also same bs with L4D). Also the price tags if I buy 4 games thats the equivalent of buying a whole game system. Every other game the past year has had Multiplayer tacked onto to it, and Xbox Live has killed the fun of online play with all the idiots, the only joy I get these days is wuppin their asses on Street Fighter 4, but FFXI has always kept me coming back because of the community. Also I know it doesn't need to be said but with this economy everyone should really think about the quality of the product before you just pick it up cause its the release date. If you don't buy crap they won't keep making crap.
Real service only comes when the community is pissed (really, really, f-n pissed).
2 years ago this thread would be at page 50 ;(
