Aliens vs Predator

Doing the predator story view first. I like the controls. But it seems the power up attack for my right hand claw is more slower than it was in AvP2 but I do like how I can block with em all in all, impressed with the controls and graphics. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Yeah, marine is easy to rack up kills with, but it's too regular.

I'm having the most fun with Predator, setting traps and blowing people up. The disc is way too good, though. Can't wait for the full game, Predator Hunt and Infestation are going to be great.

I could use a bit of explanation on Predator. I couldn't seem to get him to do anything other than stab. I mean, Left trigger + Jump does the nifty lunge thing but that's all I could do.

Played my first match online this morning. Did Species Team Deathmatch. I got 21 kills as Alien, next highest on my team was like 10. Had the most kills out of everyone at the end of the match and my team still lost. :/

Everyone in all the games so far has been sitting at 300+ ping, all the time. Give me back my serverlist and bin the abomination that is matchmaking.

The MP is fun when you don't have 400 ping. The matchmaking is a buggy pice of shit. Rebellion used the "we'll have dedicated servers!" just to get people to preorder, naturally. In a forumpost made a week ago they said a beta software for dedicated servers would come in the next few days. Not a word since.

It's bullshit. Another game ruined by consolification.

Just finished the Predator campaign last night, really enjoyed the story and weapons. Trying Marine now, kinda reminds me of Dead Space with it's atmosphere, without the whole dead bodies that aren't really dead thing.

Also, does anyone else get vertigo from playing as the Alien?

I used to get that when I played AvP 2 when it came out but got used to it. Now when I play alien...maybe get it for a couple of seconds then I get into the frame of play.

We’ve been hard at work listening to and addressing your concerns and are pleased to announce that Monday will see the release of an update to Aliens vs Predator, see below for detail on what will be included.

We will also have news on an additional feature we know many of you have been waiting for which is now ready for a closed Beta test!

Please remember and check the revised Readme file when the update becomes available for additional information on the following.

General:
- Stability improvements to address rare and infrequent hangs
- Implemented a workaround for missing audio issues with certain hardware (SoundBlaster X-Fi, Realtek onboard, etc.)
- Fixed save games being lost or corrupted if connection to Steam is lost or if user switches to offline play

Multiplayer:
- Fixed XP being incorrectly affected by offline play (though only in the local stats; this will be corrected next time you connect to multiplayer)
- Fixed other players sometimes appearing to have the wrong weapon or continuing to fire indefinitely after dying
- Fixed rare issue where players would be temporarily invisible
- Fixed some selection of servers and players in menus sometimes being incorrect

I'm getting better with Marine, don't die as quick now. Predator's a ball to play though, especially if you can get the smart disc and lure enemies into a corridor.

New patch out tonight, Dedicated Servers included. It's pretty buggy, though. If you join a game in progress, you'll end up as a Marine without any way to change. 15 Marines and nothing else in a STDM-game is no fun. And there's no option to change maxplayers, so every server is set at 18, which is way too many.

Hoping for a quick patch to fix the... patch.

Maybe I'm bordering on necrothreading but I'm rather curious about this game and it felt more stupid to make a new thread so..

I've been hopping around some in the demo while waiting to aquire the full game. However, that was in the xbox edition. I don't have a 360 myself though, so I guess I'll have to get it for the pc.

Anyone who's tried both? I can imagine a bit more claustrophobic impression from the gamepad, vs a mouse.

And since it's been out for a few weeks, how's the game balance? In the demo I tried all races, and did pretty well regardless, but my opponents weren't very clever. Aliens running along the floor in the middle of the corridor, predators not using stealth etc.

Can't say I care about the story modes, I'm all in for the multiplayer fun. Crazy lan-parties are the strength of this series after all, imo.

PS: and is it still buggy as hell?

Played both PS3 and PC-versions, and as usual using a controller in a FPS is horrible. However, both ranged weapons and melee combat have a pretty huge aimbot, so I guess you can make it work.

Balance is fine, and was fine from the start. Patch 3 is going out later today, with a nerf to the Predator due to popular demand and a bunch of other fixes, but up till now the MP has been so-so. Disconnects/high ping are common, but the patch is said to fix most of the problems. It's great when you actually get hold of a decent server, but those are pretty rare atm.
