24: Day 8

last 2 seasons of 24 have been fine to watch on an hour by hour basis; if looked at as a series of semi connected action plots its quite a good thriller still, but lack of strong overarching story has seriously hurt the show in the last 3 seasons.

Prequel could actually be kind of awesome because the first day had so much backstory that could be elaborated (Jack/Palmer/Drazen, Jack as Internal Affairs investigator, who Nina was working for, etc.). They could easily just have it be flashbacks to some plot involving whoever nina was working for. That way they could get around how much older looking Eliza Cuthbert is.

I thought I remember reading they wanted to do something with the Victor Drazen storyline somewhere. Would be badass to see Jack as special forces.

EDIT: The Victor Drazen thing I may have read or may be making up was not anywhere close to recent, so they may have even scraped the idea completely.

Well, the suspected mole in season 3 (Gael) turned out to be a big American Hero in the end. And I think the Drazen story stuff was detailed in a 24 comic or novel maybe?

The sad thing is that there are so many good directions the show could go in and yet they seem to get rid of every character that made the show so good (unless they magically bring them back to life). I really, really wished they would have done a major plotline around Mandy or any of the dozens of other operatives who are running around after escaping or getting immunity. They leave too many things like that unresolved while bringing in random high-name actors/actresses for a single season to go through the same tired plotlines with the same old plot devices.

Agreed, killing off David Palmer (and by some extent, leaving Tony out of the show) is what killed the series for me. I've said this many times before but Palmer in the Presidents Chair, Jack in the field and Tony in CTU / Backup was the Tri-Force that made the first 4 seasons so fucking amazing. It's impossible to trump characters like Palmer and Tony in their respective roles, something the series has been trying to do (and failing at miserably) since they let them go.

Granted, but if that was the case, they should have made it the LAST season.

Not my point... If you're going to kill off 70% of your main characters you might as well make it the final season. If not, good luck getting people to continue watching when the characters they've spent 4+ Seasons enjoying are no longer there.

Great episode but the whole "The light temperature is 56 hundred degrees kelvin" line really bugged the fuck out of me...
