Because people continue to ask stupid questions and make useless arguments when I've pointed out he's just having fun trolling at least 4 times now.
i think char is setting out a bait now, lol. "im motherfucking avesta" isnt his greatest, even though i bet itll get the job done, but i think he was serious about the accusations earlier lol
even i seen those videos, and i personally never even lvl'd the job
or hell, hardly watch ANY ffxi videos in the past regardless of what job it was about
Except bomb queen has 50k hp, so you can't zerg it.
Luck isn't really a factor for zip. Zip is incredibly easy. All you have to do is outrun a mob that can easily be bound/gravitied for 10-20 mins, with a huge kiting path.I'm more inclined to believe that shit was a stroke of bad luck than anything else.
You cleared it?

Have cleared once on BLM and several on RDM, though success rate is not that pretty. I haven't done it solo in a while because it's so much more practical to bring a BRD or COR with you for 100% win.You cleared it?
Timeline for RDM;
Pull #1: 3 minute pull, 3-4 minute fight(Melee and death blossom!).
Pull #2: 2 minute pull(links are acceptable just not a ton), 3-4 minute fight).
Time Chest; 1f clear, elapsed time: 13 minutes Remaining:27
Kill Tree by nuking/converting/resting. 8-9 minutes. Elapsed Time: 21-22 minutes Remaining: 18-19.
Kill 1 Mimic by meleeing, 4-5 minutes. Elapsed Time: 25-27 minutes Remaining: 13-15.
Pull your elementals with ranged, chainspell nuke one down, melee second and third. Takes 6-8 minutes. Elapsed Time: 31-35 minutes Remaining: 5-9 min
BLM is similar but can deal with links much better on 1f and kills 2f/3f/4f faster. The catch is that some races of BLm are completely fucked for 1f because of MDT and 3f is nothing more than luck, you need to cast in PDT and use a taco, only finishing your spells in damage gear. You'll still die fairly often, and a vile+1 is a necessity.
If you fuck up 1f you're done. You can chainspell sleep a decent sized group on pull 2 and then nuke down your mob if you aren't mithra. For duo, you can use distance trick on chests for extra time and make your duo partner sac out of party on 1f.
As someone who's actually done multiple unique/firsts in solo I can tell you execution is probably the least difficult part of most "first solos". Obviously if the solo is pretty difficult, you likely will require multiple tries, but by this point, you know it's possible and can just spam it until you win once.
Waffles and Cairs' argument is that you shouldn't praise Avesta's execution just based on the videos. I'm a huge fan of Avesta, but his execution is far from perfect. Also, it's on a video and he's had multiple takes, so he's filtering his own mistakes. It's like shooting a video of you throwing ninja stars or something and hitting a target. Could miss 100x in a row but get the 1 hit on video you look awesome. Obviously this is an exaggerated analogy but the point is you're judging someone based on filtered results.
What you should praise Avesta for is simply being first on some very "wow!" solos. If most/all the player base doesn't think it's possible and you pull it off (whether it's just because others never thought about it or because you used some form of trickery) it has a certain wow factor to it which I'm sure he was going for. Everyone points to the sky god solos, but he has some other rather unique ones like BCNM60 Wild Whiskers that I like more - simply because they have odder restrictions and the strategy is a bit more convoluted. The simple bind & tickle the mob to death with DoT isn't as impressive to me personally.
I love the "being first" aspect of soloing, and it's why I personally don't mind "sucking Avesta's cock". I first got into soloing because I thought his videos were cool and I don't think there's anything wrong with admitting that. When trying to show off, I always pick the most ridiculous targets to get that same "wow" factor and fail in spectacular fashion 99% of the time; but if it were that easy, it wouldn't warrant any praise right?
EDIT for Thorny: I think there was a pretty indepth talk on the old Low man limbus thread regarding BLM or RDM solo on Apollyon SW. I always died horribly on the Mimic a couple years back but thought a RDM would have a pretty easy time with the solo. How were you able to work the mimic on your BLM? It's got like 8000 HP and fairly good damage down.
Found it:

Been a while, but it's basically blink/phal/ss -> slow/para/bio -> recast ss in interrupt- gear -> nuke using interrupt- gear -> recast blink -> nuke -> recast ss -> vile +1 with an hp gear macro -> manafont.. order might be off a bit. It was very difficult to replicate, might be easier now that I have better gear.. RDM is the better job for this as it can get over 50% success rate. I imagine with enough practice that could be raised to 75% or so, but links on 1f are a severe issue to both time and staying alive.
My first Zip I only had spell Refresh, 317 skill, and like 520 MP as RDM/NIN, both ways in the snow
I just want to know, who did it first... you or Avesta?
Yes. Did you use a Pchan Build(TM)? This is one of the very few practical applications for it, the mimic doesn't hit particularly hard and taco + protect + bio + phal + gear makes it pretty managable.. the real threat is interruption. BLM can get 78% easily(eremites, druids rope, nash turban, willpower torque, af feet, solitaire cape) and 86% if you have a magnetic. Aquaveil will cap the latter off and make the former good enough that you still won't be interrupted in all likelihood.
This was around '07 for me so I basically had normal nuking and standing macros. The best I ever did was just keeping my standing gear on until the moment of the nuke, but I never used interrupt gear then. Given your description that was probably the biggest problem. I remember getting it to 40% on what I considered a lot of luck and giving up after.
I think it's always going to be a lot of luck on BLM to be honest. I had bloodbead/bomb queen/gigant/cassie/intruder from tank jobs, not sure what else in my vile elixir+1 macro which helped a bit, but it's still more of a race than anything else. Vile+1 and spell interruption- for stoneskin are key for doing as much damage as you can before manafont but you're still going to be taking more damage than you can recover over time. I believe I also started at around 700 mp to keep ugga active, because between needing to use an elixir for hp and having manafont MP was not an issue.
Since you didn't watch his videos, may I hint that he did not even post videos for 7/8 sky pops? I think it's typical that other people did not learn by watching online videos for the little mobs. They can still talk, look up wiki, or see others on their server soloing the mobs.
First of all, way to sound dishonest. During the few days of this thread how many of his solos did you actually watch? Most of them are cut/blurred on Youtube, and I took down the filefront originals. Secondly, outpacing a performance years ago doesn't count. Gear, merits, knowledge, even the mobs themselves have changed. And hey, what's that prog you're using...That said, upon seeing his videos, every single one of his kills is slower than mine of the same mob.
Quality of execution was also never about using every last drop of MP and getting lucky that no emergency came up to hold you accountable. This really was a weak argument.
Sorry for making you think I chainspelled it. That was my first plan, and I wasn't even close. I brought meatkabob + better defense and attack gear. Oh, I was also /thf for TH. Fortunately I had the piercing bonus from Joyeuse. But now my rdm's DD and nuking gear are an order of magnitude better...Originally Posted by rog

Was a list of mobs I've soloed without copycatting.. and I totally cheated by seeing someone else use Bind. You realize that's what a good 70% of RDM solos are, right? I sure hope nobody discovers that Avesta saw someone use bind defensively while soloing, that'd invalidate all of his hard work!
I nuke, he doesn't. I don't need to see them to know I kill faster.. x/tick DoT + nukes > x/tick DoT. I use windower, blow me.First of all, way to sound dishonest. Every last drop vs leaving most of it, big difference there. Nuking with 130 mp and time on convert is stupid, but not really any stupider than sitting at 400 and refusing to nuke.Quality of execution was also never about using every last drop of MP and getting lucky that no emergency came up to hold you accountable. Stunning noobie story, really. If you can't outdamage auto-regen, get better gear/food? Who would have ever thought of that..Sorry for making you think I chainspelled it. Late 07 judging by the character I was on. I don't know if you've ever fought zipacna, but I'm going to guess it was firesday or his merits are extremely subpar. Anyone who's fought it can tell you you've got a >98% stick rate with aquilos/af2 hat/enfeeb torque/af body and full merits.Just looked at Avesta's July '05 Zip video.
