    PS2 stopped playing burned games

    Help me BG

I have a mod chip, it always worked fine.

I haven't played my PS2 in.. months probably. I finally felt like playing it today. Burned a brand new game, put it in.. didn't work. Tried an old burned game(that I know used to work,) nothing. Put in a real PS2 game, it ran.

So I'm thinking maybe the mod chip got loose or something? idk I'm trying to open my ps2 to check but I don't have the nails to do so.

Don't even know if I'm going on the right direction here, does anyone have any ideas?

Do you know what type of chip is on it? Secondly are you using crappy dvd medium, every time I use cheap crap from the corner store I have problems.

Matrix Infinity, I think 1.99? Not sure if the version was a firmware thing or a chip thing.

    77001 Slim model.

I use decent quality media, I have probably over 100 burned games, they all used to work fine, now none of them are running. Well, two random ones that I tried didn't, I could go and test more of them I guess :/

Ok here's a little more info:

I still see the Matrix logo when booting up. When I put in a burned game, after that it starts to make some strange noises. Whenever I turn the power off, or open the lid, the "Playstation 2" screen shows up, with the little Infinity 1.99 on the bottom.

If I open the lid, it says there is no data, I close the lid, and it says to insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc.

So this leads me to believe that the chip is still connected, maybe only one part is loose or something? idk. I got the screws removed so I think I'm gonna try opening it >.>

Have you tried running it on its side?

I remember my PSX needing to be set on its side or upside down to read burned stuff in the end. My PS2 would sometimes skip unless i set it on its side as well. Something with the laser not being close enough or blahblah is what I read as the cause for the problem.

    Yes, tried that :/

edit: Ok, so it suddenly started working <_< Might have something to do with the um, troubles, that I had opening my ps2 up, but it's working now.

The new game that I burned isn't though, so maybe that was just a bad burn or meh media, reburning it now on a different media, let's see how it goes.

Also, if anyone knows: I was able to open my ps2 all the way, then I had to do some stuff so I put it back together, and put the case on top of it. Now, I can't fucking remove this stupid case. Something on the right side (near the power button) refuses to let me remove it There's 3 screws near the laser that I need to put back in if this works, and I dunno if I can without removing the case >.>

And yes, I said 3 screws. Fucker who modded my ps2 stole one of my screws, wtf?

I fucked something up, now its not even spinning :<

ok I fixed that, apparently trying to put in one screw fucked it up, removed that and now its reading my old games np.

Problem is, the new game I'm trying to play isn't working New burn on a different media (and also going at 4x) causes same problem. I tried loading the image up on an emulator and its working so I'm not sure that's the problem.. idk :/

Game is the patched version of FF12 International.

Try cleaning the laser's lens. Use only a wet microfiber tissue for that, no cleaning agents.

Reasoning why this might help: If the lens got dirty over time, less light arrives at the sensor causing reading errors. CD-R reflect much less light than CD-ROMs, that's why pressed CDs always work better than CD-R - hold each type against light and you can almost see through the CD-R while the CD-ROM looks opaque.

If it's an all-or-nothing for all CD-Rs (i.e. none work), but the modchip logo still shows up, there might be a broken connection. PS2 modchips require wiring to both the bios chip (the bios patch which also shows the matrix logo) and to the CDVD controller. If the connections to the CDVD controller are bad, the logo might still show up with the modchip not working correctly.

That might be because it's a different region

A lot of times with chips like that you have to tell the chip to change the region to NTSC-J or PAL before the game will play

Verbatim discs are the bomb. I special order them off newegg because they're such good quality discs.
