Why is Christian rap so bad? That's always bothered me.

I meant to bring this up back in Page 1...sorry. I absolutely can't believe people are calling Ether garbage. What does that make Takeover then? I could see if this was American Idol voting, but you have a whole slew(black card revoked) of reputable artists, hip hop historians, etc who backed both songs. How is either "garbage?"

There's just not many good rappers out there. It's hard enough to find someone who isn't garbage in mainstream rap let alone a sub genre like Christian rap. DMX and 50 Cent are the closest that I can think of that sprinkle their music with it and I know for a fact are Christians. DMX has one prayer skit and a song praising God on every album, 50 is more of the "Father forgive me, I just shot this guy and stole his drugs" type, but he actually throws in a lot of psalms and parables from the bible into his lyrics that go over people's heads.

I feel you. The only thing I'd add is you probably aren't focused, worried on, or heading towards being mainstream if you want to rap about God("my record won't get played, huh?"). So it's not even like you have to focus on marketing, just the music and message.

My thing is this. How many rappers do we know who had brilliant albums or songs when they were poor, got rich, and then forgot how to do anything creative or talented. If these people can rap about a made-up themselves, why can't they rap about a "make believe" God(sarcasm symbol here, I'm Christian, but I see that's not allowed round these parts).

Ether was garbage because like I said in the first page, where Jay-Z was dropping truth about Mobb Deep and Nas in the Takeover, Ether was more or less about ughFUCKYOUJay-Z hidden behind subpar lyrics. Nothing really substantial at all in that track to diss Jay-Z about.

I don't know where you were at back then but it did die down. Harlem, Bronx, Brooklyn, and even parts of Queens were sweating Ether before it died down to everyone reverting back to Illmatic to justify Nas. Where as in people today in hip hop still joke about tutu's, SoundScan, and who did who's baby-momma.

I like Nas don't get me wrong, he came back hard as hell in "Untitled," but when it comes to the question of Ether vs. Takeover, there's no discussion to be had.
