There is no justification for Jay Z calling himself "HOV" or for people calling each other "God" instead of homie or bro. I've never heard of Gods name being used as slang for homie or bro EVER. Jay Z saying "It's the return of the God, peace God." "Jesus can't save you, life starts when the Church ends." They are controversial phrases. If he had said "life starts when Church ends," then I could agree with what you said, but he specifically said "life starts when 'THE' Church ends."

In the bible, the book of Revelation speaks the church being Ruptured because of politics and certain things becoming intertwined. Where the separation of Church and State is no longer upheld. The Church WILL Rupture. Jay Z is trying to start some moYvement by putting that in the "Empire State of Mind" song.
Haha, yes I worship Jay-Z as my God, that's what it is (didn't you see that I'm a Christian as well? For shame.) Simply calling you an idiot won't even be able to please myself tonight, so I'ma just play it cool and tell you to look up info between wikipedia.com and urbandictionary.com to answer all of your retarded questions.

If I had a fucking nickel for every "controversial lyric" dealing with any aspect of religion a rapper said I'd be richer than most of them now.

Jay-Z is putting out good (I guess?) mainstream music, and some random Bible thumper getting mad and saying shit, and you mindlessly follow like a drone as they all do. Holy crap if you hate Jay-Z, you ain't never seen biblical lyricism from Nas yet. Maybe you should, puts ol Jay to shame.

P.S.: If you some how skipped the majority of this thread to push you haphazard Christian ideals on people, I don't even like Jay anymore past 2002.

Dude, if you were a Christian, then you'd put The Bible, Jesus Christ, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost first. Don't try to defend someone who uses bashes your religion (Christianity) and then puts himself as an authoritative higher than God. Jay Z denounces God's power, and believer's faith is very wrong indeed. He may be living a lavished life right now, but soon he will be punished unless he repents.

You can't be with Christ if you defend lyrics that speak blasphemy against his name. That's like eating chocolate and drinking ice cold water, bitter results. Like I said, I'd like to see Jay Z try this against Islam. Muslims don't mess around when it comes to someone dissing the Qur'an, Muhammad, or Allah. They'll light his ass and blow him up into another dimension.

Being Muslim doesn't mean that if someone talks bad about your religion you go blow them up along with themselves. Way to prove that another Christian is closeminded and mightier then then rest on the planet.

    Troll harder.

    >.> Video Gaming is also evil, especially with you using the face of Yojimbo as your avatar, something that looks like the depiction of a demon. I'm sure at some point you also played FFXI and plenty other games that depict killing, robbery, etc. Can't be with Christ if you're doing all that. See how stupid that argument is?

Oh, you also can't be with Christ, if you are wishing ill will on your fellow man, especially through way of another religion.

You can't be Christian if I can't be Christian.

All forms of media are evil, including music, television and games. Fudge it man, lets all become Amish, go to Pennsylvania, horse and carriage, use candles for light, eat homemade everything, have dental procedures done without nova cane. Plus if we turn Amish we'll be exempt from Obamacare (I really actually support Obamacare though ).

It is blasphemy. The is no such thing as "Jesus CANT save you" that is the core of christianity, the ONLY way to be saved is through Jesus. It is a double entoundre, on one hand saying she is a fake christian but also denouncing Jesus's ability to save others.

I don't think anyone is "looking" to hang Jay to dry, he brought this on himself through his actions. Even if I give him the benefit of the doubt for the "Jesus can't save" line, Maybe he didn't intend to have that effect in the way he worded it. But for the last video with jesus between 2 bullets and images of Baphomet (Which IS a symbol for the church of satan btw and used on the Death tarot card) enough is enough.

I'm not going to speculate on his beliefs or belonging to a secret society, for all we know this could just be a publicity stunt to get people talking. But he has not gone on record apologizing or given an explanation on why he is disrespecting Christianity so fuck him. He is free to do and say what he wants but I wont be supporting him anymore.

vajra is right, all of you are wrong. there is this nas and AZ song where they are talking to eachother in the beginning and they each say 'peace god' to eachother. it is quite apparent that both nas and AZ consider themselves god, how very blasphemous.

    knowledge on calling people "God":

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_percenter

From the early 1980s, Gods and Earths are found among the American East Coast, West Coast, and Midwest. This spread, in part, uses the language of Supreme Mathematics, which represents universal law and order, and the Supreme Alphabet, which represents universal principles of life, ostensibly to forge solidarity with the inner-city youth through a common language.[10] The main theme of the Nation of Gods and Earths doctrine that can be heard on hip-hop records were the teachings that Black people were the original, or first, human life to walk the planet, Black man is God, the Black woman is Earth, and through the inner esoteric powers of the Gods and Earths, the youth can transform and possess its true potential, which seems to overthrow the overbearing oligarchy by becoming just rulers of themselves.
Early Hip-Hop acts affiliated with the Five Percenters, and who spread its teachings through Hip-Hop, include two highly regarded MCs of the late 1980s/early 90s conscious rap era, Rakim of Eric B. & Rakim and Big Daddy Kane. These two acts, as well as some of their other contemporaries, infused Five Percent teachings and symbolism throughout their music and videos. This reputation brought fans of Rakim in particular to refer to him as "the God MC." Not soon after Rakim and Kane's heyday rose acts who were even more explicit with allegiance to the NGE, most notably Brand Nubian, Poor righteous Teachers, and the Wu-Tang Clan. The popularity of these acts sparked a boom of new NGE students.
Many terms that originated as Five Percent jargon have been adopted into the Hip-Hop slang. Popular terms such as word is bond, while having significantly older roots than the Nation of Gods and Earths, were believed to have gained prominence through its use of the term, referring back to the original Nation of Islam's and the Five Percent's shared 120 Degrees.[3]
The Nation of Gods and Earths in New York City were even known as a visible presence at parties around town in Hip-Hop's formative years of the 1970s. Scene pioneer DJ Kool Herc recalled that while there was a heavy gang presence in attendance, the Five Percent were also there as a de facto peace-keeping element.[11]
Read the whole article; explains how each practitioner is considered their own God and thus it's kind of a way to refer to someone. But you can see where Rakim got the name, and then if you've listened to Wu-Tang stuff you can pick up some other references to 5% ideas.

Peace God, peace god. We the flyest gangstas. Love that song.

I hear what ya saying Kainos, I see that. Blasphemy indeed, but the fact that we all recognize it as just that is key. Also the fact that Jay is doing it is also pissing me off as well, but seeing overzealous people like Vajra going overboard is kinda funny.

Got me on the Baphomet, however looking at every verse/song name for lyrical blasphemy is silly. This isn't the first time a rapper will go this far, and it surely won't be the last. Obviously it's because of Jay's popularity and stature in the rap game.
