    Cable picture stretched too far

I recently bought a new TV and originally I blamed the stretched too-far picture on our previous LG tv. When I watch football I can't see the score at the top/bottom of the screen, if I watch a regular network show I can't see the network icon and quite often the character's heads are out of the screen. The only way I can see the whole screen is by hitting guide on my cable remote so the screen is shrunk to a tiny square.

The previous TV was a basic 1080p LG, and the new TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-52VL150. Here are specs from the Sony website:

I've tried changing all the screen settings including wide, auto-wide, wide zoom, full, zoom, and full pixel. I've also tried manipulating the vertical and horizontal size/center but I just can't shrink it enough to see the whole picture.

When I click Display on my remote it says the cable is coming in as 1080iHD/16:9 and the best possible picture I can get is full pixel, but even with full pixel I'm missing a LOT of the screen.

The cable signal is through Time Warner using a Scientific Atlanta HD Explorer 8240HDC box and a High Speed HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified CL2 Rated (In-Wall Installation) Cable (24AWG) w/ Net Jacket - 8ft (Gold Plated Connectors) HDMI cable.

When I watch a bluray through the PS3 using the same type of cable the picture is projected just fine and nothing is cut off. Since this has been an issue on two tv's and its not seen during blurays I'm starting to wonder if it's our cable signal instead of the TV. Ideas?

Cable boxes also have a "wide" setting. Access the cable box setup menu by pressing "Guide" and "Info" on the actual box itself when it's turned off.
    Hope this helps.

You, sir, are a god. The cable box was setup for some little 22' 1999 TV since we had our previous TV stolen and didn't have a replacement yet when we moved. So I'm guessing it was passing the cable through at 480 or something stupid like that. I set it to 1080 and its working like a charm. Thanks x320138029
