Do you already have a capture device? If I could get the stupid software to recognize the HDMI input this would probably be an easy fix, I could just get a $15 HDMI splitter and send one to the TV and the other to the card to stream from, but for whatever reason component splitters are like $70 and g/f will kick my ass if I drop $170 on a new card + splitter lol, hoping I get hired on permanently at my current job next month and can label the purchase as a 'celebration'.

There's the aver card I use and a comparable hauppage both in the $90-$100 range, not sure if the hauppage on has similar issues with certain software only recognizing one of the two HD inputs.

The main issue I have is that the cards can only be used by one application at a time it seems, so with a single card I can play/record using the aver software or stream with FME but not play since using FME as a viewer is awful. At the very least you'd need a splitter so you can output the xbox feed to both the card to stream and the TV, as I mentioned the problem here is that FME only recognizes YPbPr input from the aver card and component splitters are pricey. I'l do some research and try to figure out the easiest/most cost-effective solution for you.

couldnt I just stream into the PC and use the PCs monitor output to feed the TV? I have a DVI to HDMI cable for that purpose

There'd still be the issue of having the stream showing on the PC's monitor in a playable form, that's where using the recording software as a viewer comes into play. I'm not sure what sort of alternatives there are to FME out there for streaming(I stream using jtv and that's all they support) but basically if you're running the xbox into the PC and streaming, you end up looking at something like this on your monitor:






There's a bit of lag on the preview, plus the audio works fine on the actual stream but I can't get it to work on the preview. I'll have to dig around and see if there's a better streaming site/application combination to use, I'm kinda meh on jtv anyways since it keeps doing wonky shit like locking me out of my own channel when I F5 lol

I've been intending to put in a call to Aver support for months to ask if there's a way to make FME pick up the HDMI input since one of their main advertising points for the card is that it's compatible with FME. If that's the case it'd still require a split stream, but would be much cheaper. There's also a thinger on FME that you can see in the corner that appears as if it can also record as it streams, I'll tinker with that as well, that would make it so a 2nd card would be unnecessary if it can record at a reasonable quality.

edit: I just found this as well, I'll toy with it later and see if I can rig it to fit the full screen Aver MediaCenter window, if so I can maybe just do the streaming straight from my desktop instead of needing to stream from the card itself.

I would love for BG to setup a BG tournament online and stream it. Should check out Peaceful Jay's Salty Conflict Online on Thursday on jtv, he uses a solid format for hosting tournaments.

I'll try to track that down, if both myself and Sono can get set up to record/stream at the same time then between the two of us we should be able to make sure someone would be able to sit in the lobby during all the fights. Within a couple of weeks I'll look into starting to take names so we can figure out how to seed things and such, I'd really enjoy if we could pull something like this off.

I have no problems joining a lobby and idling, I work a lot but its from home so I can set up a stream and just watch for people

The host can just be a spectator and not participate in the online tournament feature. Once everything is seeded the host can go make a sandwich, rub one out, and do his taxes while the tournament takes place.

speaking of, anyone know if there's a way to disable the way the 360 dims itself when you idle for a while? I had to scrap footage of two matches because I was doing other shit on my laptop while they were going and it got all dark.

There's a screen saver option in the system settings somewhere, turn that off.

Thanks...also it looks like Aver put out a new version of the recording software last month, if it's not junk it'll probably raise that as my recommendation for a capture device, going to try it out tonight. If they added support for avi codecs like HuffYUV my captures are going to be ballin'
