@Ramor: yeah right now I'm sitting on the idea of getting the SE and modding it. it's either that or last year's TE, not sure which I'm going for at this point but I'm leaning towards the SE since I'm fairly certain I'll end up modding it. the advantages of the TE don't seem to be enough to justify the price increase if you're going to replace the parts anyway.

Honestly, buying the SE and modding it later is probably the best option for your situation. As far as I know, the only difference between the Sanwa-modded SE and the default TE is that the TE has got a sturdier base, which really isn't an issue at all. The default buttons really aren't as bad as everyone makes it sound, I've had my stick 6 months now and only had it constantly stick on two buttons, which a quick disassemble, pop out the button and jiggle it around a little bit fixed flawlessly.

Short answer: Nothing

You're basically paying for a nicer frame, more hand space, a nicer surface for artwork, and the better buttons/stick. If you're swapping out the buttons and stick... just the frame really.

Just buy a JLF Sanwa stick, 8 buttons (either Sanwa or Seimitsu if you want something like the artwork in the picture above)...take apart the SE, and pop in the new parts. Simple.

I just got a TE because I've modded sticks before and I didn't want to deal with it in case I messed up or something went wrong. (I've had the Hori EX2 short out on me after modding it with Sanwa Parts after a few months) It's just peace of mind really.

ok. so the TE's frame really is the only advantage it has. which, I can see why that would matter if you're really into it, but yeah, for me I think the SE will be good enough once I replace the buttons and stick.

awesome. now I just have to decide if I'm going to replace the artwork or leave it be. I'm not exactly a whiz with photoshop but I might see what I can come up with.

Where did you get your octo gate, and what is the difference exactly? Now that I'm putting some time into learning Ibuki, I think I may look into getting one.

That's what I believe the TE stick comes with, but I could very easily be mistaken

also, have i missed any of wong doing ibuki? or anyone that's played viper or gen yet?
