You do realise that the Catholic church completely controlled not only the translations but the readings of the Bible until the reformations in the early 1500s, with the famous Martin Luther incident. Before that time the Bible was only available in the Latin Vulgate, which was copied throughout the dark ages (and incidentally went through many revisions, and some which included notes, others which excluded parts). It was at the time of Martin Luther when the Bible was first translated into texts besides the original text and the Latin that was translated and transcribed during the dark ages... First German, then into Dutch from that German translation, and into English and French around the same time... There were many accusations of those early translations of people accusing the translators of changing things to suit their intentions (as many of the translations were through Protestants who had broken from the Catholic church during the Martin Luther fallout).
