Worst driving conditions you've been in?

I just had the most awesomely eerie and probably worst driving condition experience of my young life.

was driving in a THICK fog, You could not see more than 20ft in front of you in the best of conditions, and in some side-streets where light is limited, you can't see more than 5 feet off the front of your car, even with headlights and hi-beams on.

It was cold, Dark, and visibility was incredibly low, it was the single coolest thing i've ever driven in. i had to go about 20 MPH just to be able to see Traffic Lights in order to stop in time for them. its literally Post-Zombie Apocalypse fog, thicker than what you thought was possible.

Thought it'd be nice to see if anyone else here has had horrific driving conditions that were SO BAD that they made you laugh, knowing this was a once-in-a-lifetime sight.

I know some of you out there have driving in weather so bad that you, so creepy, so deeply like a Cliche that you have to share it.

    (I hope)

Heavy rain, that's it. Being in hawaii is the shit. Don't gotta deal with fog, snow, ice, just rain and sunshine.

Last couple weeks it's gotten pretty icey/snowy in east TN, I live up in the mountains here. Roads were covered in the most perfect ice, was kinda ridiculous. They looked fine, it was like someone dumped water all over the roads, insta-froze it, then buffed it down till it was clear like glass. I decided to try getting to work, and managed to get out of the driveway only to immediately slide down like a 10 degree hill (almost looks flat) and my car just calmly coasted through a red light while I was gripping the wheel like FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF- Can get pretty foggy too, being the smoky mountains and all, not too fun when the interstates get like that kinda quick and you've been goin 70~ mph.

I've heard stories of terrible rain in the south, like firehouse like rains. Worst I've driven in is snow, but not really a problem with a Subaru.

I've driven through total whiteouts in blizzards. The snow all swirling about, with the car sliding, and no idea where the other cars are. Not fun.

Does being a passenger with a woman as driver count? ;p

Heavy windy rain, nothing as bad as the OP though.

growing up in maine i'd say the worst are whiteouts and terrible ice-storms, ice-storms are scary as fucking balls when everything's coated in a thick layer of ice and the city has run out of salt/sand

When I lived in Pacifica, California, here's a brief description of the area, the town is on the mountain side facing the ocean. drive from my house to the ocean is like 15minutes, but with an 1000ft + elevation change. Area was prone to dense fog. Driving on narrow cliffside roads in the fog, I won't forget that town.

Another scary driving condition is Route 27 in NJ in any weather. that's a god awful highway.

Now-a-days, my favorite drive is over the Vincent Thomas bridge connecting Long beach and San Pedro. I do that drive once a week, around 12-3am. Has a feeling/scenery of the movie Dark City. Also, it's by a harbor, and some how, someone got a christmas tree light-frame on top of huge shipping cranes, that's lit up over the holiday. the frame has been up there for years.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I live in CT, everything fog/snow/rain you can think of I've had to drive in. My saturn station wagon saved my life a few times, once sliding on a bridge in a huge ass storm.

I'd say worst for me was when I was driving back home from Big Bear after snow boarding, was kinda snowing and kinda raining, like slush. So I was going down a mountain on a windy icy road and it was raining/snowing so bad I could hardly see, honestly though I was gonna die lol

i remember driving down the bronx river parkway going home with a friend with the windows down saying "man, the weather is perfect tonight" then literally 10 seconds we found ourselves driving towards the eye of a tornado, hail flailing the car so fucking hard im surprised nothing was damaged.

people were all parking their cars underneath bridges to avoid the weather, and ive never really been so scared in my life- i thought we were completely fucked. eventually made it away from the storm and onto a local road, only to find most of the roads were completely flooded and some cars were literally submerged in water.

if youre from new york, i'd say its hard to find something similar to compare it to in recent years. and they say global warming doesnt exist

I had just finished racing a guy, we got up to like 120 and he pussed out (thank God...), was still going about 85 on the highway when my left front wheel popped off and went bouncing off across the median.

    That count?

Other than that it would be either having to get in/out through the floods around here, or the shit I used to do offroading in my Jeep, or just goofing off around the lake in my old truck.

I've had my jeep driving out of a creek go straight vertical cuz you had to hit it so hard to get up the side of the bed.

I've also had to back it a few hundred yards down a huge hill with deep nasty ruts and shit because the engine died due to the angle fucking with the carb, with no power breaks and no engine power so I basically had to use my clutch as the break.

I've been in such thick fog driving up the mountains that someone would need to get out of the car and guide by walking along the road. Shit sucks.

january 2004 we had a noreaster/blizzard combo that dumped 2 feet of snow, started snowing around noon and into the next day

my gf at the time lived 30 min away and I had already made plans to crash at her place for the weekend to watch the eagles/falcons nfc championship game. I left my house arouuuunnnnnd 10 pm or so.

a little blizzard was not going to deny me vagina, It took 3 attempts to get out of my driveway with a shovel as i pushed the snow away, i had to drive like 25mph the whole way so it ended up taking like 2 hours, because also there was a bad accident that diverted traffic out of the way

almost skidded out a couple times but I arrived and life was good.
