I think the crux of the issue is, no matter how illogical or crazy liberals and dems say conservatives and the republicans they support are, they somehow actually manage to twist the Democratic party's arm with ease and get what they want (so they can then say they don't want it anyway). Coakley's ineptness notwithstanding and ignoring the effect the bill would've had on the rest of the country - MA had a clear reason to side with the guy who has the power to stop the bill from messing with their healthcare.

Then, throw in that MA has a healthcare system that people are mostly happy with - something they stood to lose if the health care bill passes. So they voted in the guy most likely to vote against it.

Do you not understand the paradox of trying to spin this for one party?

The republicans can't claim it to be a referendum on public health care, because MA votes for guy to kill a bill that would hurt their... public health care, implying MA likes their public health care (and they do).

The democrats can't claim it either because they can't get their public health care plan through with this vote.

It's a paradox that can't be spun one way or the other.

It will actually be interesting to see this play out in the next couple of weeks. It would be amazing to see states adopt MA's healthcare policies as a result of a failure of the federal government.

Actually, and this is coming from me as a conservative, this makes a fair bit of sense. I had never heard of it placed in this context before, partially for not living in mass. and partially for not wanting reform in the vein of whatever terms the house/senate bills use because I love the Blue Cross coverage I pay for myself...

There is a vast difference between healthcare for Mass. run by the state of Mass. than there is on a nationwide scale.

And i think people are being too accusatory about why Brown won and why Coakley lost. It's a simple answer and its D) All of the above.
