You should have at least gotten three estimates before deciding to go through insurance, although I don't argue that the estimate isn't very high for that job. I'm no bodyman, but I've worked in the auto industry half my life, and I've done a fair amount of bodywork on my own cars.

That particular crease isn't easy to hammer out, if it can even be saved. They would probably replace that entire quarter panel and repaint it, blending it to match and having to buff it afterward. (And yes, black is a bitch to buff out properly)

Easy way to solve this. Ask the person you hit if you can have one of your guys take care of it or at least get a second estimate. As long as you weren't a dickhead, most people are at least receptive to the idea. When you take it to said other garage don't tell them it's an insurance job until you've been given a quote.

The reason they are getting this quote is because the first words out of their mouth were "insurance job." And the second that happens, the dollar signs go rolling in their eyes. It's the same way with the companies that work for me for AAA. A tow we send them on(AAA) they get paid 15-25 dollars. If they can convince the person to go through insurance that same exact tow is now 100-200 dollars plus time and mileage.

Long story short, the repair garage is gouging. That shit is $800.00 tops.

Yep, got it this past halloween. I'm in love and it was dreadful the week and a half w/o the car.

The worst part of my situation was that it was parked at my parents, in their suburban neighborhood and someone hit it and ran.
