Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta Coming to PSN on February 2nd
Hello PlayStation Nation! Killzone 3 launch is now just 30 short days away, but for those of you who just can’t stand to wait any longer, we’ve got some good news: The Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on Wednesday, February 2nd.

This Open Beta will be available for free to all North American PS3 users and will run from Feb 2nd-14th, giving you the perfect chance to get hands-on with Killzone 3′s brutal online warfare and try out the revamped precision controls. You will also have the option to play using the PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D.

The Open Beta will offers exclusive early access to the MP05 ‘Frozen Dam’ multiplayer level from Killzone 3, including all three online multiplayer modes: Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone and Operations, along with the offline multiplayer mode, Botzone.

“Frozen Dam” is a sprawling asymmetrical map set in an old dam facility, the playing field in MP05 has been carefully tailored to fit each of the multiplayer modes. Here are the four multiplayer modes included with the Open Beta:

    Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)
Guerrilla Warfare is a standalone multiplayer mode similar to classic Team Deathmatch: You and your teammates must try to kill as many of the opposing team as you can before the timer runs out. In this mode, only the downstream monitor houses and repair bay are accessible, giving the map a very frantic pace.

    Warzone (24 players)
If you’ve played Killzone 2, you may already be familiar with Warzone. It’s a round-based multiplayer campaign that consists of five randomly ordered mini-missions. In this mode, the power house and penstocks directly under the dam are accessible as well, so there’s more room to come up with different strategies and approaches to your goal.

    Operations (16 players)
Operations is a new multiplayer campaign which aims to deliver a more cinematic, story-based gameplay experience, similar to that of Killzone 3′s single-player mode. It consists of a sequence of linear mini-missions, in which the ISA must try to secure the docks and destroy the dam, while the Helghast must try to protect the dam facility.

Botzone (one player and up to 15 bots)
Botzone is an offline multiplayer mode ideal for those looking to get to grips with the controls, the weapons or the map layout before going up against live players. Each of the aforementioned multiplayer modes can be played offline, against CPU-controlled opponents.

And of course, the open beta is just a taste of what you’ll get in Killzone 3′s multiplayer experience. For more details on Killzone 3′s multiplayer maps, check out the full briefing on Killzone.com.

We’ll unveil more details on the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta soon (along with some other surprises). So stay tuned!

Killzone 3 – Single Player Demo Coming in February
Killzone 3. The Jetpacks. The Brutal Melee. The PlayStation Move. The 3D!

Ever wanted to get your hands on the action? Killzone 3 may not be out until 02.22.11, but we’re giving you a chance to hop into the “Icy Incursion” level that takes place halfway through the campaign.

    * February 15th is the day that Killzone 3’s Single Player demo hits the PlayStation Store.
    * PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the demo on February 8th!

Strap on that jetpack and take flight through the arctic environments of Helghan.

    ScreenShot_2009_03_21_1835

There will be two separate downloads available from the PlayStation Store: one in 2D and one in 3D. Both versions will take place on the “Icy Incursion” level. Don’t worry – downloading the 3D version and playing it on your 2D TV won’t break anything … you’ll just see a message saying “No 3D TV detected.” The 2D version has splitscreen coop as well, a feature not available in the 3D demo.

All PlayStation Plus subscribers who have automatic downloads enabled will receive the 2D single player demo of Guerrilla Games’ upcoming blockbuster. As a reminder, PlayStation Plus subscribers can turn on the Automatic Download feature under “System Settings” on the XMB. This feature will update your PS3 with firmware updates, patches to recently played games and other select videos or game demos.

These demos will be PlayStation Move enabled, giving gamers a chance to experience Killzone 3 with the most immersive controls. When you get your hands on the demo, be sure to try out one of my favorite new mechanics, the Brutal Melee attacks! Get close to your enemy and hit the melee button (or thrust your PlayStation Move motion controller at the screen).

The aiming and movement mechanics have been tightened since Killzone 2. Play around with it and let us know what you think!

Stay tuned to the blog as we give out more details on the upcoming multiplayer Open Beta. While you wait, bone up with this full list of weapons to get a day-one edge.

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...etro-map-pack/

Introducing the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack!
Ever find yourself longing for the good old days of the year 2359, when the invasion of Helghan had just gotten underway and you were fighting a desperate bloody battle over every inch of its capital city? That’s perfectly understandable – why, we all do sometimes. But now there’s the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, which lets you relive those glorious multiplayer battles in the market streets and canals of Pyrrhus!

The Retro Map Pack can be purchased from the PlayStation Network, however as we announced back in October of last year, the Retro Map Pack is available for FREE to anyone who pre-orders either the Killzone 3 standard or Helghast Editions at participating retailers.

The Retro Map Pack consists of two classic Killzone 2 multiplayer maps, thoroughly updated and reworked for Killzone 3’s multiplayer mode. Check out the details below:

    Salamun Market

Game Type: Warzone – 24 Players
    Description:
One of the largest maps from Killzone 2, Salamun Market has been re-balanced for maximum Killzone 3 carnage. After the Helghast ambush an ISA convoy on its main road, the whole market becomes a Warzone. Nostalgia meets brand-new Exoskeleton combat on this classic multiplayer map!

    Blood Gracht

Game Type: Guerrilla Warfare – 16 Players
    Description:
Months after the nuclear blast that ruined most of the city, Blood Gracht is slowly being reclaimed by Helghan’s strange plant life. But when Guerrilla Warfare breaks out between ISA and Helghast troops, the canals once again run red with blood. The fan-favorite multiplayer map from Killzone 2 makes a triumphant return!

If you haven’t played Killzone 2 yet, or if an old war injury prevents you from remembering what Salamun Market and Blood Gracht originally looked like (again – we’ve all been there), a comparison video of the old and the new versions of the maps will be posted here in a few days.

For now, enjoy reminiscing while you look at the screenshots, and remember to pre-order Killzone 3 to get the Retro Map Pack for FREE.

I love beasting with the LMG as a medic. The secondary ability's level 3 ability lets you revive from death, once per life, and kill whoever doesn't finish you off. I've been averaging 5k to 7k because of that.

Holy shit this is so fun, it's only tainted by the shitty servers because everyone and their dog is trying to play...

3 shot medic rifle is baller as hell, so too is the droid that sometimes finishes people off for you after you die! Had a couple of 14k games, it's so easy to dominate once you know the map...

Game is really good, wish they had a few more alternate control schemes tho, I use alternate but would like to have crouch toggle on L3 and melee with O but it still controls great.

Finally downloaded today and played some bots. The skills and shit are fun as hell. <3 sniper rifle and the shotgun. It really is taking a long time to transition the control schemes, I don't like the delay'd ness of the controls and when aiming it raises the sensitivity instead of lowering it, wish there was more of a way to customize that aspect. I don't know if they meant for it to be that way (the delayness aspect) or not but I like the tight controls of CoD.

I finally got to get back in and play some. Definitely fun. I can't wait for my Move to arrive so I can see how that is. I'll probably save it mostly for the Sharpshooter and single player.

Finally found a MAJOR gripe with the control scheme. In KZ2 when aiming down the sniper scope, you could turn on an option to use six-axis which would provide finer control. For some bizarre reason they removed this... I hope it gets patched back in at some point, it was hella useful once you got used to it.
