Considering how hard it's been to find people for the mini expansions, even the day after they came out, I don't think you'll have a ton of luck finishing rotz, cop, toau etc. I think buying an account with those missions cleared might be your best bet.

And yeah I don't know that I'd buy an account to skip the missions either, but without friends to drag into stuff I don't think you'll get past them, most of asura already has them done and we ignore shouts with the best of them and I can't think of an endgame shell that doesn't require sky and sea access. I'd imagine that's a sad reality on most servers. If you don't care about getting past rank 5 in rotz and not having tav access much less sea access, starting over would be just fine. If you do want to have those clears, be prepared to shout for a very long time.

When I came back to FFXI after a break of going to go play WoW, I figured my character was gone and was kind of lost where to play. My seemingly reasonable solution at the time was to go to IGE or whatever RMT site, and find what server had the highest price per million gil. The basis at the time was that there's two possible reasons for high priced gil: Either 1. They lack accounts on that server and have a harder time getting supply or 2. The economy on that server is healthier, and gil has more buying power.

Neither really ended up being true, but it sounded like a good idea at the time.

All thought the logic doesn't really stack as it makes it impossible to make money as a new player as a lot of things you farm aren't worth much more than NPC prices.

But if you have a mule full of cash on another server then you will get more for your money over here.

Some of the people here are a special kind of stupid, I can make 10-50k a day just buying stuff off the AH and selling it to NPCs for a profit. I suppose you could do the same as a new player (once you have a few 100k as a float).

That's the best part of this game, the servers are more less the same... Everything has the same crappy drop rate so rare shit is expensive and common shit is cheap.

Pick a server where you know someone that is willing to help you get started. You'll have a lot more fun.

There's 32 servers (server ID 00-31). You'd have to use percentiles and reroll anything from 96-99, stepping by 3s (00-02, 03-05, etc) since D12+D20 results in 2-32.

Siren overall is a very good server to start with. We've got a supportive community here, relatively drama-free free, and frankly we just kick ass all around. =D

Might want to aim for getting into campaign quickly, which becomes feasible around 40, no matter which server you go to.

You will get slapped around something rotten by the mobs at that level, but if you make a point of joining a union for every battle, you can get some pretty decent drops in treasure coffers, like elemental ores and lvl75 weapons. If you are lucky in the lottery you can make some decent gil.

Decent gear can be bought with allied notes. They throw those around like confetti.
