So nuking the hatch did work, in a way.

It just created a parallel universe. Locke and Charlie never died on the island, because of Jack using Faraday's theory with the nuke. Only downside is the other half of the parallel universe is still on the island.

It's weird how somethings are different (like Desmond being on the flight and Hurley being lucky) because they were affected by the island, but other people are still in their same situations. Don't really remember what was up with Boone and his sister though, or why she wouldn't be on the flight...
