108 is a number prevelant throughout the show. 4 8 15 16 23 42 when all added up equal 108 which is how many minutes were on the clock in the hatch. 108 is also the amount of days the survivors stayed on the island (although I think Null said Walt got off on day 100 so this may not actually be true although I've read it several places).

Cuse and Lindelhof cleared it up pretty well around 1:08 into the special.

Quick question, WTF is 108? I feel like I'm being wooshed when people talk about it.

EDIT: In the Q&A they said we would see Walt before everything was over, where was he in the finale?
That's pretty much how it was for me as well. The interpretations of fans was one of the big things I liked since so many things can be interpreted in multiple ways. Like the ending credits. I agree with the full circle thing and it just being the set, but I can also see why some think otherwise.

I think he (Walt) was just in memory flashbacks. I know he was in Locke's throwing a knife.

I remembered that too. E! Online's Kristin dos Santos has a brief video Q&A about some insder info she has that wasn't discussed or revealed in the show. Included in that is the information that we'll learn about Walt in the season 6 DVD's.

    Second video down:

    http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watc...real_name.html

It also reveals the name that the man in black's lines were shown in the script.

Are they counting how many TV sets were tuned in at the time?

    Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
TV ratings system is pretty shitty but advertisers love it.

I didn't see this posted and sorry if it was but apparently the actor who played Eko was asked if he wanted to appear in the final episode but was turned down because he wanted five times what other actors were getting paid. Bro, you weren't that important.

Especially when the most they would have done with him probably was to have him be the priest at the cathedral in the end. Jack walks into the side room and Eko is there with the casket, says something to Jack and leaves the room.

I wonder what kind of rating 13.5million gets you and how that compares to M.A.S.H.'s finale.

I've been sad all day. I want to rewatch the finale, but I don't want to cry more.

When I saw Lapidas was still alive, that was a very happy moment for me. Fuck yeaa

    "he is worse than yoda"
"I don't believe in a lot of thing, but I believe in duct tape".

Great quotes for a great finale. I seriously didn't expect to enjoy it since I was hyping it for 6 years, but I'm glad I was wrong. I felt like crying the whole time. Christian's explanation near the end was perfect and answered most questions I had. I'm really happy with that speech.

Ben and Hugo staying on the island was unexpected, but I love it as well. I'm glad they went with this over an ending with Jack/Locke. Ben redeemed himself, and Hugo...everybody likes Hugo. That was good stuff.

    Now the questions...
Who was that skeleton near the light? Christian Shepard's body? That's why i think since the coffin was found nearby, and he was smokey at some point, but I might be missing something.

Michael's ghost said they were stuck on the island? He couldn't leave because the cork was blocking the exit? It will takes him more time to move on? I've no clue.

Who the fuck is Jack's son? Just an illusion? Obviously, they wanted to throw us off with him, but there has to be an explanation? Did he ever get someone pregnant?

Aaron will have his mother back, Desmond's son might get his father back, but Ji Yeon Kwon is fucked. She will never see her parent, and will never know what happened to them. It's weird. It's not like there is any rule saying that every kids will get an happy ending, but you have to feel bad for her.

If you're still having trouble understanding it..

    LOST explanation, chronologically:

The island has been there since the beginning. It is neither fully hell, heaven, purgatory, or earth. It is a 5th kind of place, like an intersection of all these. It is a "cork" which prevents the evil (hell) from descending upon the earth.

There needs to be a protector, Jacob probably wasn't the first. But after Jacob is the protector, he protects the cave which has the light. The light is a part of heaven that shines through.

Jacob kills and tosses MIB into the cave, where MIB is reincarnated in evil, full of greed. He wants to kill Jacob, but can't due to "rules" (by god) protecting the protector of the island.

Hundreds of years later Jack etc. crash on the island, because Jacob brings them there. He wants to have candidates to succeed him if MIB does kill him. Jacob is allowed to make his own rules too, and one is that people he brings can't leave the island. Jack etc. are still alive, not dead, since this is a new kind of place not talked about in other stories.

Jack etc try and try to get off, and a part of the group does leave. But the rules are the rules, and they eventually come back (seemingly of their own free will). After they come back MIB really starts interacting with the Candidates. As per the rules, a candidate is allowed to kill the protector. So, MIB manipulates ben and kills Jacob.

Jacob hangs around as a ghost until a new protector is selected, and Jack is selected to be that protector.

Jack and Locke put Desmond in the cave. Desmond thinks the rock ("cork") he is removing reveals heaven, but instead it reveals a fiery red hell ("the red wine"). It is only in the absence of hell, that heaven shows itself as light. Jack and Locke become regular folks while hell is about to descend upon earth (or at least the island), and Jack kills Locke and Locke injures Jack.

Jack gives the protector power to Hurley, who makes Ben his Richard, and goes in the cave to plug up the hole. After Jack puts the cork back on the bottle, Heaven shines again and Jack dies a little later.

Kate, Sawyer, Lapidus, and Miles make it off the island and die of old age or other circumstances. Hurley and Ben die when they get succeeded by someone else.

But, they all meet in purgatory at the same time, since there is no sense of time here. They meet here and they all move on to Heaven, except notably, Ben, who stays behind, because he isn't ready yet.

    TLDR: L O S T
The best part of the finale was the Sawyer/Juliet encounter. I loved the fact that her uttering the words, "it worked" wasn't her talking about the bomb, but rather a fucking vending machine.

There were several skeletons and they were simply random people who attempted to obtain the power of the light and were instead killed by it.

Jack's son is simply the son he never had but could have. He is in a way a mini version of Jack, who's existence in the "purgatory" sideways-verse served to enlighten him to the trials of being a father. Helping him to better understand his own father and reconcile his issues so he could "let go".

True to life not everyone gets a happy ending.

I wrote an email to my local radio station after attending their viewing party last night. I am including it in spoiler tags if anyone would care to read. It's not a pandering letter, it's more of a "this is my take on the entirety of the series" thing without going through each individual event.

    Spoiler: show

First and foremost, the light at the center of the island is meant to be up to our interpretation. We are told that the Light is the source of Life, Death, and Rebirth, and to examine it more is to ignore the intention of the show. However, I believe that the Light is the source of the good within everyone's soul. This show is ultimately about the connections we make in life. Six years ago we were introduced to a story that involved characters who, whether they knew it or not, were already connected. Through five seasons we watched these connections unfold. We watched as characters' past experiences shaped their actions on the island, and then we watched as these characters' experiences shaped their actions off of the island.

As the sixth season began, we all believed that we were experiencing our characters' lives had they never encountered the island. Our finale showed us that what we in fact were seeing was the summation of the story: the after-effects of completing their mission in life. We watched as the sixth season revealed it's grand purpose. While it sounds like an ambitious purpose, it is actually quite finite and simplistic. Our connections in life will be far more important than the sum of our accomplishments.

A few things have to be accepted as reality if you wish to appreciate this ending. The first on this list that needs to be acknowledged is that our sixth-season-flash-sideways were in fact flash forwards. In a manner of speaking. It might be more accurate to refer to them as flash-ends. I feel it's a little unfair to refer to the "side-flashes" as Purgatory. If you take Led Zeppelin's example of a Stairway to Heaven, we can reference the "sideways universe" as the platform to the steps. You haven't started on the staircase yet, but you're surely standing before it. In some capacity, our characters decided that, upon the culmination of their lives, they would "meet" at a given location, and when the "time" was right, they would know exactly what that location was.

Another item on the list is that you must acknowledge that this situation of guarding the Light is a never-ending effort. As we have seen, now three times, when one protector dies, another comes to be. Allison Janey was the first Protector we met, but she surely was not the first. It is not important who came before her. It is not important who came after Hugo. To ask these questions is over-examining and again, missing the intention of the show. It would likely be fair to presume that Jacob was never intended to be the Protector, and his brother was in fact the favorite. When the brother learned the truth of his heritage, his desire to protect the island vanished. As he fell deeper in to his hole of hatred and anger, the Good in him was swallowed up. When Jacob finally sent him back to the repository of Good at the center of the island, the Black Smoke Monster emerged. I believe this happened because there was no Good left within the Man In Black to return to the well, and it certainly is not a storage location for Evil.

What it comes down to is that, as Christian said in his final speech, everything that happened on that Island was quite real, and impacted every single one of our characters so profoundly that, in all honesty, their lives would have been worse had they never made it to the island. I imagine that concept is hard to swallow, given the sheer number of characters that died on that Island. Accept this, however: Jacob stated that he brought people there because they were flawed. It might be more fair to say that the island allows only flawed people there. To me, the Egyptian statue is present on the Island so as not to get a sense of the Christian concept of Original Sin. If you ignore Original Sin (thereby accepting that through one's own actions does one become flawed) you can understand why everyone could not get to this Island.

It is my opinion that this finale answered every question it needed to answer. Everything that went unanswered, if you take a step back and examine it, is in the end inconsequential to the overall concept. If there is anything we should take away from this, it is that we should be more mindful of who we meet in life as opposed to what we make in life. If, when all is said and done, a small group of people can stand up at my funeral and say "He was a good man" I will be much more pleased than if a large group stood and said "He was a successful man."

I loved the Sun/Jin storyline throughout, I just felt as Sun was about to drown, she would of wanted Jin to go and be with their child... he had never met her, and he deserved to for all the sacrifices he made for his wife. I know the island brought the couple together, and they wanted to remain that way but I really do think the writers overlooked their daughter in it all.
